Battle For Terra is an interesting movie and you should go see it.

I am saying this because Mr. Russ Fischer just gave it a lousy review.

A bit of full disclosure here: I know the people who made it and I provide the voice (or rather creature sounds) for the main character's pet in the film. So yes, I'm a bit bias.

The basic premise of the film is some fun and classic sci-fi...

Our heroes are the peaceful denizens of the alien world Terra (weird coincidence that they named their planet the same thing as our Latin word for Earth). Then one day some evil space invaders show up to take over their planet, ID4 style. Who are these horrible space creatures? Us. Earthlings. We're the bad guys.

I'm not gonna blow smoke up your ass. The movie isn't perfect. But I'd say that what works in the film out weighs what doesn't. I'm just some blogger who already confessed a bias for the film, so why listen to me then?

1) It's a great sci-fi story. Mr. Fischer does concede that, "It's closer to real science fiction than we're likely to see from other summer films." Classic sci-fi fans won't be let down.

2) And it's a ballsy story to do as a CG animated movie. Battle For Terra goes outside the standard boundaries of the Disney/Dreamworks world, to a darker place.

3) It was an independent movie. No big studios involved in production. Because of the cost involved with making animated films, most people are reluctant to try independently financing them... especially with more out-there material like this. So as film fans, especially genre and animation fans, I think we should support the effort.  If we shit all over efforts like Terra, then all we're ever going to get are more Madagascar sequels.

4) The film is 3-D, and it looks fantastic.

5) Brian Cox provides the voice of the sinister Earth general and the dude is badass.

and most importantly

6) I wanna get hired for more voice work, so I could really use a hit movie on my resume. :)
