If I had a time machine....
I would go back to the dawn of modern man. There I would find the first upright ape capable of speech and make them utter the following formula.
loneliness + alienation + fear + despair + self-worth ÷ mockery ÷ condemnation ÷ misunderstanding x guilt x shame x failure x judgment n=y where y=hope and n=folly, love=lies, life=death, self=dark side
