HOW DO YOU SAY HANGOVER IN THAI?

With The Hangover hitting DVD and Blu-Ray this week everybody is talking about the impending sequel to the biggest comedy of all time. Director Todd Phillips has been stressing that the sequel, which is in the scripting stage right now, will not be taking place in Las Vegas. So where will the boys be going to get into trouble? How about Thailand?
At least that's the plan right now. What will be the story and why will the four friends be in Thailand? Beats me, but sources close to the movie tell me that Thailand is the destination. It's a pretty good destination for a movie about waking up with regret, and you have to wonder how edgy they're going to get in this chapter. I imagine Thai ladyboys are a certainty, but how about the more unseemly side of Thai sex tourism? Will Zack Galifiniakis end up with a child bride instead of a baby?
Another source has told me that Thailand was going to be the setting of the scrapped Old School Dos, so it could be that Phillips is recycling a bunch of jokes that were intended for Will Ferrel and Vince Vaughn.
Since the script isn't finalized things could still change, but my source is someone who would know. Get ready for lots of Phuket jokes.

I would imagine the underage angle would probably appeal to you quite a bit.

Why would there be lots of Phuket jokes? I'd like to think it be just a TAD smarter than that. If not, then that'll be a shame. You know...considering it's not pronounced 'Fuck It' at all. That would be dipping into like Harold and Kumar levels.
They need to go to Pattaya. Ohhh, Pattaya. I spent a month there one night.
Seriously. Pattaya is just a fancy name for Sextown. Or Whoretown. Whatever. It's visceral.

perfect example of why this site doesn't need a comment section

They're on the extreme side, but you need something to counter-balance the unabashed worshipping that goes on in the boards, sans fear of inevitable banishment.

I'm not crazy about sequels to comedies but i just have a feeling that this one is gonna work.

Hangover in Thai is "Mao khang"
เมาค้าง
The film authority of thailand is quite conservative when it comes to approving scripts, somehow I see this film might have to be shot elsewhere?

I'm Bangkok-ian, and I feel insulted. No, just kidding, there's a lot you can make fun of in the city of angel (I'm talking about Bangkok which translate as one). So be my guest, Hangover ppl.

#4, I'm with you that the comments sections are good to have, but you're confusing appreciation with worship. When the CHUD staff get big-upped on the forums it's because peeps who have actual self-esteem like to thank other people for providing entertainment or a service if it's well delivered, as it most often is on CHUD. The real value of the talkbacks is that they allow the poor saps with gutter level self-esteem, who latch emotionally onto films (plenty of which they have yet to see) like some kind of comfort blanket, to let off some of that nerd-steam that builds up due to the geek-rage and stunted maturity they seem to suffer from. They're unfortunate but harmless souls and best of all they're funny to read for all the other cats who possess the cajones and brains to understand that hating over the internet is the most impotent of all impotencies. ----- As for the news on the Hangover sequel setting up camp in the land of muay thai and cheap sex: sounds pretty sweet to me.

comments 1-9 = stupid
the situation in thailand is so funny! wow this will be a riot! nothings funnier than child rape and sex slavery. Hannibal has solved the biggest problem in on the internet and who would have guessed it all boils down to self esteem? its all about how you feel about yourself? fuckin genius. and then someone thinks that classic, brilliant observation is pretentious? dictionary.com, please. this is why the internet hates you and your weak ass site

Most of this movie's funny moments were shown in the previews. The rest seemed to be filler material and wasn't particularly amusing. Unfortunately, it didn't really live up to the hype. And a sequel? Really? They left absolutely nothing to build on to justify a sequel. Just another lame attempt to avoid coming up with an original idea. Congrats, Hollywood.

I just wish someday people will see the beautiful side of Thailand, which I assure you is one of the most beautiful in the world if you stop thinking about prostitutes and ladyboys for a bit. Having said that, there are pretty fucked up things here as there are anywhere else along with the good things.

Hangover is by far one of my favorite comedies, but I really hope they do this one tastefully. I can see how Thailand would be a great setting to do it, but if it ends up focusing strictly on the sex tourism industry...it will get ugly. Human trafficking, particularly sex trafficking is a huge and very sensitive issue. A lot of the sex industry in Thailand is human trafficking and its really easy to turn a blind eye to it; most tourists do. I seriously doubt that the Thai Govt would approve such a script if that ends up being its focus.
I could see this movie going a number of ways: it could be extremely offensive and point to sensitive issues that are just left glorified by this film, or it could be done tastefully, highlighting all types of issues/tourist sites in Thailand. Anyone whose traveled there can agree its quite an adventure - and not because of the sex industry.
