MAKE A SPOT NEXT TO THAT TWILIGHT POSTER, THE CROW REBOOT'S HAPPENING

A remake of The Crow has been slowly coming together for some months, with a script getting a bit of buzz in October. More recently, i09 spoke with producer Ryan Kavanaugh, who has his hand in a pretty enormous number of projects in development (including The Strangers 2, Piranha 3D, and Season of the Witch). Details are scant and vague at this point, but it's clear there is a strong chance of this one coming together."The script is great. We're very excited about it. The Crow is definitely going to happen, we're just getting all the pieces together right now. It's not officially greenlit, but it's going to happen... I think in a couple months we could have the package together for sure."
Kavanaugh makes sure to make both direct and oblique references to Batman while talking about story and casting (which may be "an actor you've heard of," or it won't), and clarified that this will be a relaunch rather than a continuation.
At the risk of jumping to the most cynical conclusion right away, I have to wonder what effect this previous weekend is going to have on the production. How much work would it be to inject some Twilight into a franchise that already had it's greatest appeal with angsty 14-year-old girls? Will the production be able to endure the temptation of mining that clearly profitable tween well*?
If this doesn't get fast tracked and re-railed as Twilight cash-in, the fervor will likely pass and have little effect, but there's definitely an executive with a bright idea making some calls this week.
*Not gonna reword that.

The best thing about the first Crow movie was the soundtrack. Go ahead and remake it. Who gives a shit?

Fuck you dude the crow changed my fucking life! Before that movie came out I was into carebears and shit...but that movie made me REAL. REALS real. so fuck you asshole, the only reason you don't like that movie is because you are to insecure with your own butt virginity which I will take if I ever see your retard fuck face anywhere near my bario homes. The Crow's deleted scenes alone are better than your moms sweet vag (Which I thustly pown) because shes sick of blowin' retarded man quiffs like you and her small cocked lesbian lover you call dad. THE CROW is the most significant human endevour since Commando ok prick, you get me? When I was a kid I used to smoke windex...how do you smoke windex? Thats right bitch tits you freeze it first. You know who taught me that? Thats right Brandon "the fucking biggest film star EVER" Lee...cut down before his prime like James Dean and James Woods. So who's the REAL mother fucker now...huh analbead? BOOM fuck me, peace.

Wow, #2 - calm the fuck down. Remake/boot/magine/equel The Crow? Done, Done, Done and Done. They've done every possible permutation including the mopey Teenager version. The first one is the only one with any spark and that may be down to poor old Brandon Lee getting killed on set. Agreed, that was an excellent soundtrack - both the OST and the bands.

Yeah, the OG Crow? Awesome. Eddie Furlong as the Crow? Not so awesome.
Also, I had never seen the term "butt virginity" used so well. Kudos sir, kudos.

Eh. The increasingly shitty sequels and terrible one season TV show tarnished the first film's quality AND Brandon Lee's memory.

i'm really disappointed about this... i agree, the first movie changed my life as well. it's hard to see something that's been beaten into the ground (after such a good first movie was made) try to come back. i think it's awful enough that they couldn't just leave it be. Brandon Lee did an amazing job. it's going to draw in a bunch of dumb fans thinking they're onto something new, and it could possibly ruin the appeal for many fans of the original. most of the sequels were very disappointing, except the third had an interesting take. this would be like remaking Dirty Harry - it'll ruin it. :(
and the soundtrack is amazing, i agree with all who mentioned it. i loved the musical infusion in the original film, both with the performances and the choice of songs for certain sequences.
i hope they leave it alone..!

Could work. Director should be Zack Snyder, or the Wachowskis.

I now dislike Renn due to his stereotypical attitude towards The Crow and it's fans. Comparing some lame romance movie featuring sparkly vampires to a movie where a murderous angel of death hunts down his woman's killers is fucking retarded. The only thing i'm worried about is an emo-spin in place of the original's grunge stylings.

I have to agree with Andrea on this one. The first movie may not have been an Oscar winner, but it's dark, goth-noir style and gritty action is the kind of stuff good comic book adaptions are made of. The fact that they're even considering a re-make is disappointing at the very least, horrid at best. Besides, it's not like the films even that old. Re-making movies from the 70's, 60's, 50's and farther back doesn't hurt too much, but it's like they're denying the first film ever had any kind of success. It's like they're ignoring the fact that there are still plenty of Crow fans around and that their love for the first film is still fresh in their hearts. Why don't we just go ahead and re-re-make Star Trek while we're at it. Hell, why not Sin City? Hollywood really needs to pull its head of its unoriginal ass.

Another good movie brought low by its fanbase. And stupid sequels. Also Speedrazor, I think you meant goth instead of grunge.

I think this could work. The Crow as a concept, doesnt need to be re-booted or a sequal. Its a crow thats brings people back to life for revenge. Great concept, no need to sequalize or re-launch.
Movies like these just need good elements. (story, actors, supporting studios). Aliens, Predator, Crow, All these franchises need is a series film, not just a rushed cash-in.

Wow bob wow. I assumed most kiddos who saw the first "crow" movie fell in love with it for one reason or another, but has anyone here read the original book by James O Barr??? The movie is a glamrock/hollywood version of it and a "remake" in the batman sense is pretty great. BUT... it will never happen. The remake will be super lame and teen friendly. Face it, suckage will be the order of the day.
And #2 is an obvious troll.

65.605 Gothic architecture features in the movie, but it seems to me the guitarist lead character in the film is most definitely a grunger. The soundtrack consists of almost all grunge/industrial music like Stone Temple Pilots, Rollins Band, Helmet, Nine Inch Nails, Medicine, etc. Some metal thrown in there too with Pantera. Aside from The Cure being on there the music of the film can hardly be considered 'goth music' in any way.

I dont understand what you guys have against twilight, The books are enthralling and realy well written, and the new movie was amazing, and I think that this movie remake would work great written in the current time period.

I don't get it. In a way, all the sequels were remakes of the first one. Well, City of Angels was actually a sequel since they shared one character and they acknowledge the first one. But the rest could easily be loose remakes.

Oh man, "written in the current time period." Like the original Crow was some sort of period piece. Excellent.
