NEW BEN STILLER MOVIE APPEARS TO FEATURE NO MONKEYS, VISUAL FX

I have to admit that I don't like the trailer for Greenberg, the new film from Noah Baumbach, a filmmaker I greatly admire. There's a level of cutesy quirkiness that irks me, and the song in the trailer - either from the Strokes or the lead singer of the Strokes (oops, it's from LCD Soundsystem, and it still fucking stinks) - irritates. There's some stuff in this trailer that says Baumbach to me and a lot more that doesn't.But I'm giving Baumbach the benefit of the doubt. Kicking and Screaming and The Squid and the Whale more than earned that, and I think even the flawed Margot at the Wedding is worthy. And the concept here - what ever happened to the slacker from 90s indie movies? - is kind of interesting. On top of that I really like Greta Gerwig, who stars opposite Ben Stiller, and I like seeing Ben Stiller get back into the indie movie thing.
You can see the trailer at Apple and make up your own mind. I remain optimistic about this film until I can see something more than a trailer aimed at the Urban Outfitters crowd.

The concept doesn't seem like "whatever happened to the 90's slacker" but more what if a guy becomes a slacker later in life.

I think a lot of what makes it not work is Ben Stiller. He failed to ruin Royal Tenenbaums, but that's the best that can be said of him as an actor.
Josh Hamilton would've been better.

Bob Dylan's son did Kicking and Screaming, the crappy Will Ferrell comedy. Noah Baumbach did Kicking And Screaming, a comedy about twentysomething slackers made in the 90s.

I agree with #3. The comments make this site sooooo much better. I'm glad they just keep coming back. It really makes my CHUD visits so much more enjoyable.
Seriously, though. I try to ignore them. But they're RIGHT THERE. And they're annoying every time. If people keep posting how terrible they are, do you think we can get them turned off again?

Jennifer Jason Leigh?!?!?! Do ya think she was inspired by any of the writers she's worked with? Maybe she's taken cues for this one from Charlie Kaufman, Todd Solondz, or Joel and Ethan Coen. I'd like to see her hook up some more work in the vein of David Cronenberg!

This site needed the comment section back. I haven't read anything by that idiot Russ Fischer in a while so Devin doesn't look as good as he used to (in comparison) and the forums are nothing but a circle-jerk involving failed nobodies giving uninformed yet surprisingly arrogant opinions about pointless shit.
