MAD MEN, FRIGHT NIGHT

It appears that the Fright Night remake has risen from the grave. The trades are announcing today that after almost half a year of planning Dreamworks has finally picked a writer for the project- Marti Noxon, a producer and (mostly consulting) writer on Mad Men. She got her start working on Buffy and went on to write and produce Angel, so she definitely has some knowledge about vampire comedy. Tom Holland's original film was about a teenager who finds out that his neighbors are vampires. The kid's a horror fan and gets written off as having an overactive imagination and so he takes things into his own hands, recruiting a former horror host of a show called Fright Night to help him out.
The remake will apparently keep the same tone of the film- horror/comedy- and of course update the effects with all kinds of digital wizardry.
If you want to see the full original film, head on over to Crackle. Those bastards don't believe in allowing embedding of films but they have the whole classic available for viewing online. It's still a blast.

Yes! I love when movies get remade cause they're so much better when they've got awesome CG effects that are all like BLAM and have references for the kids like ipods and facebooks and stuff and then some Vampire who is from Twilight and totally hot will be like BLAMMO with CGI and shit and they've got awesome ass metal from Blink 182 (real metal, not that Ozzy shit) and then the movies all like KABLAMM! Man, that's some awesome movies and shit. I hope they throw the original out cause watching old movies without facebook in them is all old and shit, and then you'd be old and shit.

I fucking love Fright Night. I only hope that Noxon delivers a fresh script and the studio backs off a bit. Nothing wrong with a remake if it's done right. Still ... why not just make an original picture?

I still can't believe the annoying sidekick ended up moving into the world of gay porn.

The Horror Host subplot won't work like it did in the 80s. There are no more horror hosts on TV now (or at least, damn few). And one of the main points of the Peter Vincent subplot was that he was a relic of the 1960s-70s gothic horrors, who was unwanted in the 80s era of slashers. What now, a Robert Englund-type bemoaning torture porn and CGI?
