UPDATED - THUD: YEP, SMALLVILLE...SEASON 9

Seems that a situation is developing over at Smallville that I'd started to suspect for a while, since this current season didn't seem to be building toward any gigantic finale: it looks like there's going to indeed be a Season 9. The story's coming from various sources all over the web, but I first caught it at SyfyPortal, which got its stuff from Michael Ausiello of EW. According to Ausiello, responding to a question about the possibility, "Yes, there's news, and it's good. Some would even call it, ahem, super. According to a well- placed Smallville insider, Welling is nearing a deal to return for a ninth season. I'm told they're just ironing out some minor deal points, such as should the Brinks Truck pull into the actor's driveway, or just unload on the street."
OK, think about this for a moment: nine seasons of Smallville. That's longer than any Star Trek series by two years. That's going neck and neck with X-Files, which itself should have ended two years before it did. That's approaching the current genre record holder, Stargate: SG-1, and that show had to retool itself bigtime after Season 8. I'd been thinking that the last two seasons were going to be it, and have been incorrect both times. This effectively means that when all is said and done, Tom Welling will have played the Man of Steel longer than anyone, except for the iconic Christopher Reeve, who only dipped back into the role once every three or four years. George Reeves managed it for approximately seven years, depending on whom you ask. Of course his leaving the part was either voluntary or not, also depending on whom you ask.
So what exactly does this mean for Smallville? Welling knows what side his bread is buttered on, and at least seems savvy enough to realize that with only two Cheaper By The Dozen movies and a shitty Fog remake recently, the movies aren't exactly beating down his door. And as long as the ratings are up, or at least holding steady, the CW isn't in any hurry to have him go anywhere and he seems in no hurry to leave. Plus there's the ridiculous checks he's going to be cashing this upcoming season if (when) he re-signs. As for the show itself, Smallville started with the mantra of "no tights, no flights," but the guys who made that rule - Alfred Gough and Miles Millar - are gone. And Clark has effectively made the leap from the farm to the Planet. Plus the whole Clark/Lana/Lex love triangle albatross is also gone. The Superman theatrical franchise is still in the Phantom Zone as well. And with the Justice League now firmly established in the show's mythology and Justin Hartley a regular as Green Arrow, I see no reason that we couldn't actually see Clark finally get into the superlongjohns.

I really need some closure for Lana. I mean, ending her with just unable to not be near Clark seems a little weird and I really need Lana back for a special episode. Since she is invulnerable to anything maybe she can run in and save Clark and the world from the Kandorians. In the legion episode the telepathic girl says that Lana still helps a lot with the future of this story or show and I just need to see her before Smallville decides to end it's show career.

Pathetic, the no tights no flights thing was one of the best decisions in the smallville history, sorry to say, but Tom Welling as great as an actor he is, would be horrid lookin in tights, he'd portray the image of superman all wrong, leave him as is, as clark kent.

Smallville was originally created with the theme of "superman before he was superman". Which means they need to continue the show until it leads up to the beginning of the superman saga. Meaning clark needs to learn to fly, louis and clark need to get together, and all history points implied so far(such as lana helping clark in the future) need to be carried out, or else they will leave too much to be desired when they finally call it quits. Leaving something to be desired is a strategy you should only use if you plan on making more of something. Why leave fans desiring more if you aren't giving more?

tom is a nice actor, & i dont think anybody could beat him in movie acting. i dont smallville to end, because, as u can see problem does not end. from one to another, & 4 him, he keeps on saving. dark forces from every corner of our lifes. there,s something he has not yet develop, the separating of his self. if u take look at one of the main flying superman films u will see that at the end of the film he separated his self & foght them.

Can you please balance the chemistry between clark kent and Lana Lang?....

its time for clark to start flying, hook up with lois or focus on lana ,he can't keep playing two girls together. getting emotional for either whenever any of them is around.
it doesn't speak well for his potrayed image as a hero.
in either case, the episodes are too slow in coming out, viewers attention might begin to wane with continued delay.
in any

Tom has a very nice precence on camera, but we need to get passed all the being careful with the bad guys and step up now. The passed episode were fantastic into leading the way for the future superman. But superman now is not a boy anymore and not only does he need to fly and I mean fly better than anybody else but he needs to be more intelligent and step into the role of a mighty Kryptonian hell bent on truth , justice and a true hero we can all look up to. Tom Welling also needs to start working out a bit more stingent to pack on some extra muscle and how are you going to work out the fact everyone has seen his face as Clark Kent . So the character superman will be to obvious. Also the personalities of superman and clark are to similar. Here is an opportunity for tom to play 2 entirely different charaters and show other major movie studios his acting talents. which will eventually make him a sought after commodity which we viewers believe is his eventual goal. A cape and tights would look great on welling but it will have to be desiigned to accent the actors best qualities both physically and character wise. The colors are important along with the big fat "S" because superman is not just a hero of the people he is a symbol of truth and justice, hope and leadership to the human race which he is now a part of. As superman his hair will need to be slicker, perhaps the fortress can alter his facial characteristics when he takes on the roll of superman so as to hide his clark kent look. He needs to really come into his powers now .

Anyone know what happened to DOOMSDAY? How does an indestructible creature just disapear after having a season of build up for him? Also, how long is LEX gonna be out of the picture. Hasn't he been gone long enough.

please please, whatever you do, let lois and clark be together and don't cause a break up between them....it's gonna spoil the whole stuff for me
