TERMINATOR: SALVATION GETS A VERY MOVING POSTER

Ironically for someone who makes a living writing about movies, I don't spend a lot of time in 'real' movie theaters. So when I am in one (and a big, modern one) I am often amazed by the phenomenon of the video posters - what look to be regular framed posters but are actually some kind of flat screen that displays a moving image. It's an exciting step forward for posters, and I think it's probably the only way we'll see theatrical posters in ten years.
I assume that's what this latest Terminator: Salvation poster is. It's a flash movie on the Sony site (they're handling internation distribution), but it'll likely be a motion poster at your local theater. And it's pretty cool and eye catching. I included the final image here, but click to the Sony site to see the whole thing in action (note: I had a bitch of a time making it work in Firefox, but Google Chrome got the job done).
And in other good Terminator: Salvation news: I'll be able to post a set visit preview for you guys December 11th. I'm pretty psyched to share some of the amazing things I saw in New Mexico. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I miss paper posters already. Am I alone in finding video street signs ugly as well? Like the ones Sonic uses? Am I an old fuddy duddy? Oh, and let the fat jokes... begin.

Yeah, as cool as this is, I just got all melancholy thinking about the death of the paper movie poster. How will collectors collect? On data carriers? will we all need to have separate, vertically mounted lcd screens in our homes to have movie poster collections? Of course I'm exaggerating, as I'm sure that some sort of paper versions will still be made available for retail, but it's still kind of sad. There will be no more "official" one sheets, banners, etc. Of course, I guess people like the guy I knew in the '80's, who got his hands on a whole stack of "Revenge of the Jedi" posters and sold them for $400 a piece will be making even more of a killing from people who collect this archaic, outmoded form of film marketing.

Works great for me in Firefox, you probably have an old version of Flash...time to upgrade! I saw it on Yahoo too - http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/terminator-salvation-poster.html

You can paint a McG with liquid gold and crushed diamonds, and it will still be shit.

The video posters are interesting in that the aim seems to keep the movie poster aesthetic but add little bits of eye-catching movement. They seem perfectly capable of full video and choose only limited burst. Should be cool to see how it develops as an "art" in it's own right. I can imagine some pretty awesome horror turns using these things. More so when they get no-glasses 3D motion happening.

I like this video poster approach, but I love print posters. Just like Glen M. above, I'm old fashion. Hell, I'm starting to get a little teary eyed now thinking of some of my originals that I have -- double-sided teaser for "Silence of the Lambs" (Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster on opposite sides -- giggity) and T2: Judgment Day with the original release date that was later changed.

Dude... that final image is completely good enough just be a still image. I love it, I wish they had left it alone. I'm very excited for this movie. Why? A) The concept, this is the terminator movie we've been thirsting for from the beginning. B) The Nolan factor.
