ARRESTED IS ONE (VERY REAL) STEP CLOSER TO DEVELOPMENT

At a point in the very near future, the argument over whether an Arrested Development movie is a good idea or a terrible one is going to become academic. According to THR, Ron Howard and Mitch Hurwitz have closed a pair of deals to write and direct a film with Imagine and Fox Searchlight. (Point number one to celebrate: the deal is with Fox Searchlight and not Fox.)
Hurwitz will write and direct, but in the latter department he'll have help from Ron Howard. On the surface that might not sound ideal, but Howard had a lot more creative input into the show that detractors (of which I'm generally one, when it comes to his directorial career) would like to admit. One way or the other he'll be a big part of the movie as well, and if it comes down to a co-directing credit, so be it.
Start laying bets as to whether or not Michael Cera will return. Though I don't relish the idea of AD without George Michael, I'd almost love to see how Hurwitz and Howard would write around his absence.

Yeah! Very excited! And Micheal Cera had better show up. Arrested Development started his career.

Motherfucker had better come back to the fold. AD made him who he is--the hipster bitch-boy of the moment. Don't be a bitch, Cera. You're not as good as you think you are.

Its dead. Get over it. I loved it too, but our culty tv show was something no one watched and it died.

It's clearly dead, which is why they are making a movie.

George Michael is away at college. Problem solved. Though I'd much rather have George Michael in.

Cera should have no reason to sit this out, there was still the unresovled marriage that can factor into this movie. Did any of you actually watch the last season? There was enough left over to fuel 90 minutes more.

I feel that despite his comments, Cera has no ACTIVE DISINTEREST in making the movie. He's just looking at it from the perspective of someone who might have watched the show and may want to read a script to make sure they can "recapture the magic" before signing onto the project. Which, in my mind, is perfectly reasonable. I would be shocked if the script was great and Cera still declined, unless the shooting conflicts with Scott Pilgrim.

Fuck all the bullshit, this movie needs to get made. The greatest thing about this show was that it created a very real sense of depth to the characters, by which I mean they really built upon "past events" for jokes in the show. They very vibe of the show is that there's always some story in this family's past that you don't know yet. I agree with Russ that even without Cera the film can be good since clever writing could easily CAPITALIZE on the character's absence as opposed to detracting from it. That said, I think Cera will so it if it looks real. At this point there's been so much speculation for so long that he's probably just gotten sick of questions about that instead of on the "career" he's trying to build.

Has Cera said that he wouldn't do it? Or is Russ just talking out of his ass. Why wouldn't he do it? The show gave him a career. If there's any info on Cera's return, post a link. I would like to get some hard facts.

Pay attention. Would have taken less time for you to google this than to post your comment. http://defamer.com/5045936/enjoy-your-dvds-because-michael-cera-is-vetoing-the-arrested-development-movie
