MCNULTY'S JIGSAW

IGN has a behind the scenes featurette for Punisher: War Zone that focuses on Jigsaw, the big bad guy played by Dominic West, aka The Wire's wonderful hero McNulty. The Jigsaw make-up is pretty over the top; it's looking like this version of the Punisher is going to be the most cartoony yet. Which, weirdly, doesn't feel like a bad thing. I'm kind of excited to see this one now.
Thanks to Brian Henne for the heads up.

i liked him from the first glimpse in the first teaser-it actually looks cooler and more believable than DK's twoface

It's kind of amazing that, of all the modern comic franchises, "The Punisher" seems so hard to do right as a movie... he's the LEAST unusual superhero EVER. But instead Hollywood so far has been: "Guy gets powers from radiocative spider-bite, fights a Goblin? No problem!" "Stunt-biker from hell with a flaming skull for a head? Easy as pie!" "Death Wish AGAIN, but now the guy has a skull on his shirt? Whoa, whoa, whoa... THAT'S gonna take some work, man."

Asking for a comic book movie to be the next TDK is obviously unfair. But to have a cartoonish villain when the subject matter should be taken seriously.... What a kick to the nuts! First we had to put up with a bullshit hype machine of slander against Lexi. Now they expect people to want the R-rated version of Joel Schumacher's homoerotic Batman films...It's Tommy Lee Jones' "Two Face", except he gets to kill on screen. What a fucking waste! I rather watch Thomas Jane, er...check that, I would rather watch Thomas Jane AND Dolph Lundgren's Punisher films than pay to see this horseshit!

The coolest costume in comics, and they have him wearing what looks like a Hugo Boss anorak. I would rather watch the pop-under ads that plague this site than pay to see this!

I'm going to give this benefit of the doubt and just say the ads have been crap. I think Jigsaw looks a bit over the top especially with his make up, but you know its Dominic West who is actually a really good actor (The Wire!). Also it has an ok director, she did Green Street Hooligans which I thought was pretty good. I just hope it has a good story because all the ads just show it as a straight up dumb shit action flick. Until I see it, I won't make judgements, becuase I just don't know exactly what to think.

Yikes-"Van Helsing bad" I've used that term many times myself. It's one of those rare films that makes me go blank when someone defends it.

why is everyone giving this movie so much shit? he looked like a good version of jigsaw. and jack, seriously, you knew what he was wearing? the movie is about violence and vengeance and everything that makes a good testosterone driven movie, all of witch I'm doubting you have.

Cooler and more believable than TDK's Two-Face?? WTF? This looks like a fucking Dick Tracy villain. What turns me off from this is how cartoony it looks. Did Joel Schumacher produce this movie? Oh and let's not mention how direct to dvd it all looks.

dj monster, I'm just saying I don't want to see the movie become just non-stop over the top action, that is fine for some movies but I want to see my Punisher with a good story and character development while also having bad ass action. Also vengeance and violence make a good testosterone driven movie?!? Did you see MAX PAYNE?!?!?! That was terrible! I do like that over the top-ness that Dominic West has as Jigsaw, it just seems really crazy while unique and I think is already obvious that he will make a better villain then Travolta. Also I think that the end battle between Punisher and Jigsaw will be more exciting because it seems like Jigsaw is a mean badass which could make the end fight more believable and exciting.

Good story and character development, yeah, just like in The Punisher comics. Man's family is slain and he takes violent, sociopathic revenge against all mobsters. That's what a Punisher movie should be. It's a B level revenge story. If it's a decent action movie at all, that's more than we can ask for.

This fanboy attitude of "dark is good, light-hearted is bad" is getting fucking old, guys. That fight scene between Thomas Jane and Kevin Nash in Punisher '04, which was played completely for laughs, was fucking awesome and I hope Punisher '08 has at least five scenes like that. And you can stop pretending that the Punisher character or concept is even slightly deep. It's the Death Wish of comics, and not even the original Death Wish that actually tried to have some social commentary. It's a simple revenge story about a guy who uses guns to deal with his pain the same way normal people use booze and sex, and God bless the people making this movie for having the balls to give the middle finger to every one of you assholes who think every comic book movie must be dark 100% of the time, by throwing some goddamned humor in there to break up the tension.

Set us straight #13, thanks. Consider me, at least, fucked off. But really I doubt anyone mistakes Punisher as an opportunity to search the soul. Personally, after two stinker movies (yes, with a good middle act in the '04 version) I think we're all just hoping the filmmakers take it more seriously and not necessarily make something oh so serious, if you get my drift.

Man, am I the only one who looks at this movie and thinks "I'm SO going to get loaded up on beers and then watch this?" It looks like perfect entertainment!

The last time McNulty teamed up with a star of ROME we got HANNIBAL RISING. Fingers crossed. Thirteenth!
