A month ago Russ broke the word that Dan Akroyd had confirmed that Atari had picked up the troubled Ghostbusters video game and would be publishing it next. The game was originally supposed to hit this year but it's been pushed back to next, a good thing from most reports. Not only will this give them more time to beef up the gameplay but it will tie in with the 25th anniversary (!) of the first flick.
And it's finally official- a press release from Atari hit recently that shows Phil Harrison nearly weeing his pants in anticipation of all those units sold.
I'm sure you know the story behind this project, but for the uninitiated, it's as close to a third film as we're ever going to get. Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd wrote the script for the game, and all four leads are contributing their voices and likenesses. Along with that Annie Potts is coming back as Janine, Brian Doyle-Murray playing the Mayor, and the immortal William Atherton retuning as pencil-neck Walter Peck. The story takes place two years after Ghostbusters 2, even though much of the promotional material seems to be retreading stuff from the first film.

Check the official site for a trailer and more info. I don't know about you guys, but I'm excited forthis one... and even more excited that I won't have to mess with my Atari 2600's A-B switch to evade that Stay-Puft Marshmallow man.

Anyone who is familiar with the game knows that Ramis and Aykroyd only allowed themselves to be in the game if they got writing credit. The script was finished long before they arrived and started punching up the comedy. It's too bad the games industry just isn't in a place where the actual writers of this game can't protest the fact that they were asked to suck it up because Ramis and Aykroyd were the bigger names and had the bigger egos.

Chimp, that sort of shit doesn't surprise me in the least. Vin diesil tried to pull similar shit with starbreeze when that excellent Chronicles of riddick game came out a few years ago. Fucking actors....

The game's storyline is based on Aykroyd and Ramis' proposed script for Ghostbusters III, where there's a new team of GBs while Hell (literally) arrives on Earth and picks NYC as its launching point. This script has been floating around for at least ten years, so until you can cough up some proof I dub ye full of horseshit.

I would have thought Ghostbusters 3 would be the closest to Ghostbusters 3 that we would see. http://www.chud.com/articles/articles/16209/1/WHO-YOU-GONNA-CALL-NOT-RAMIS-AND-AYKROYD/Page1.html
