A BITTERSWEET CLIP FROM MILK

Today America woke up a step ahead, as we have elected our first African-American president. But on the same day we took a great step back, as so many states have passed virulent anti-gay propositions on ballots. One of these states, I am sad to say, is California, my current home and one-time home to Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected in American history.
Focus has sent a (weirdly truncated) clip from Milk, Gus Van Sant's new film about Harvey's life, to celebrate the election of Barack Obama. But watching this clip it's hard not to realize how bittersweet this day is, as California voters look to have decided that gays do not deserve civil rights.
And by the way, the banning of gay marriage in California makes Milk the Oscar front runner, as so wisely noted by Mr. Beaks.

I know, right? Because it's totally not relevant to the subject at hand or anything....

Some people live in a vacuum, apparently. This election is historic, fucktards; if you want to shove your head up your ass and watch movies and media content uncritically, with little to no regard for relevant cultural or social contexts, then maybe you ought to run along to Comingsoon.net or E.

Agreed about MILK being an Oscar front-runner. Those boys in the Academy who fought against H8TE will exact a certain amount of revenge.
Pretty disgusting move by California. Why is it that "The land of the free" is the last place on earth to adopt civil rights for women, blacks, and homosexuals????? Doesn't that seem strange to anybody?

The United States has always been big on pushing for civil liberties abroad but being the last to adopt them at home. As the Land of the Free we ride on the coattails of our radical forefathers and remain unusually conservative ourselves.
Most political scientists believe our conservatism is tied to our extraordinarily strong sense of individualism.

How is it that a state so decidedly blue as California decide to vote away gay marriage? I thought only Republicans were the evil, morally stunted, assholes. Shove that up your self righteous ass, Devin.

i think its ignorant to force this law upon a institution that still believes if youre gay youre going to hell
away with this bullshit called religion, deep down we know its not true....gay people can already get the same rights as married couples just go fill out for a declaration of domestic partnership ITS THE SAME THING! we need to do away with more important things such as power of church and false gods before we can bring up real world issues such as gay rights

This is sad. Especially a day after electing a black president, America proves it's still this backwards hypocritical piece of shit nation its always been. I don't have all the answers but I'm with devin in thinking there's nothing wrong with it and marriage is pointless anyway these days. What's wrong with people... oh well. It was good feeling american for like 3 minutes.

"How is it that a state so decidedly blue as California decide to vote away gay marriage? I thought only Republicans were the evil, morally stunted, assholes. Shove that up your self righteous ass, Devin." ------------------------------- Unfortunately, a very large voting block that helped get Obama in office also voted for the "pro-marriage" amendments, i.e. the black christian vote. still plenty of evolution is needed obviously.

Gay is the new black

Who cares? Gaywads can still suck the cock and stick it up each others behinds, without getting chased down the street and hacked to bits, nazi germany style. So its not all bad. Grow up, crybabies.

"Still pretty good" once again proves that there's nothing worse than a self-hating fag.
