THE TWO STOOGES

It's interesting to use The Three Stooges as a way to gauge the career status of the Farrelly Brothers, or at least our interest in them. More than half a decade ago they were working on getting a modern-day Stooge story off the ground at Warner Bros, and they were talking about George Clooney as Moe and James Gandolfini as Curly. And we cared. Now they've actually got the film going at MGM and they're going to do an American Idol-style search for someone to play Curly. And nobody cares.
This announcement comes on the heels of the announcement of the Brothers directing The Farting Dog, starring the Jonas Brothers, which is certainly some kind of nadir for the guys who brought the R-rated comedy back. At least they're getting to make their dream project after they do the movie about a farting dog starring a group of metrosexual tween stars.
Peter Farrelly explains that their Three Stooges movie will not be a biopic, but rather a new Stooge adventure set in the here and now. "It takes place in present day, and they look, dress and sound exactly like the Stooges. When the economy started turning, we felt like the world could use a Stooges slapfest. Bobby and I haven’t done a real physical comedy in a while, and it’s the most exciting thing we could think of now, to have people go to the movie, see some great slapstick fun family humor."
The film will be structured like the original Stooges shorts, with three different half hour long stories. Just what sells tickets - an anthology comedy starring people dressed up like they're in the 1930s!

Nyuk nyuk nyuk.
I'm weirdly interested in this. Can't explain it.

That was submitted to Stiller for Moe back in '01, with Chiklis "interested" for Curley. Remember when Mel Smith made a Marx Brothers pastiche film, and no one cared? (brain donors)

Just do it right!

I'd see this. But then I'd also see "Laurel and Hardy" if it was cast right. Glancing deprecatingly at the camera FTW.
I nominate Jeff Bridges as Larry Fine.

"More than half a decade ago" is an odd way to say "6 years ago," isn't it?

Seriously, 6 years is really not that long ago and did anyone actually care then? The Farrelly Brothers haven't done anything worth shit since Mary and that was a full decade ago.

There was a new Laurel and Hardy done in '99 with Bronson Pinchot as Laurel and the guy who played Don Zimmer in the Joe Torre telepic as Hardy. Called "For Love or Mummy," it's one of the worst movies ever made and pretty much killed the careers of everyone who worked on it - even co-director (he was fired) John Cherry, who directed all the "Ernest Goes to <blank>" movies.
I'm sure this will be muuuuch better.

Hey Seth Rogen, if you're reading this, find some way to slip to the press that you're attached to this project in some capacity. Devin lives a horrible life and needs to enjoy his reporting more.

What does this have to do with Watchmen??

Am I the only one out there who realizes the appeal of the Stooges was the Stooges themselves? I don't want to see three random men hitting each other and eating paint brushes. I want to see the STOOGES doing these things. Hey, look. I've got four DVDs of them. Problem solved. Also: "I nominate Jeff Bridges as Larry Fine." That sentence made me laugh out loud.

If it was made by the guys responsible for the amazing "Brain Donors", the best comedy of the 90ss, it would've been great. But it will be done by two dolts who think carbuncles are the height of hilarity. There's no chance that this movie won't be moronic (though, needless to say, it will still be infinitely better than e.g. "Family Guy", and probably
"far too sophisticated" for Family Guy's audience)

Brain Donors was good. It nailed the spirit, if not the greatness of the originals. It is probably the purest and most successful homage I can think of.

I'm not trying to pick a fight or call anyone out, but I'd like to point out that Brain Donors was more an homage to the Marx Bros. than the Stooges.

Just here to add to the Brain Donors love. The "Harpo" guy sucked but the rest was gold... That what they should do with the Stooges. Cast people in the archetypes, but not the roles of Larry, Moe, and Curley.

Who cares?!!!
Bring back the MB drafts, you fat asshole!

Whoa whoa whoa. Were these "Three Stooges" fellas members of The Minute Men? (I'm thinking the dark-haired guy was Dollar Bill?) And why no mention of Zack Snyder's testes? Sloppy reportage, Sir Bottom McFats. Sloppy.
