SAM AIN'T TIRED OF THAT MOTHER$%&*IN' STARK IN THAT MOTHER@&$#IN ARMOR

Reported by the homies at AICN by way of IESB, Samuel L. Jackson is indeed slated to have a much more "prominent role" in the Iron Man sequel. This is good - but not necessarily surprising - news as the way that the Avengers movie is shaping up, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that that would be the case. However, to have it confirmed by Sam the Man himself after talking directly to Favreau is reassuring. Especially reassuring in fact, considering that this comes on the heels of word that Don Cheadle would be replacing Terrence Howard. I was disheartened by that news, as Cheadle is one of the best actors working today, but Howard was good - if underutilized - in the role of Rhodey and I was looking forward to seeing him continue it, especially in the big gray tin can.
Fury belongs in an Iron Man movie as he and Stark have a long history together, going back way before the Ultimates reset the clock on everything. Back to what I consider the Golden Age of Iron Man when John Romita was doing the art and Shellhead was in his classic armor, you know, the one with the two red iron danishes on his hips.
Marvel's making some dubious choices in establishing their new franchises, first of all with nearly stopping our hearts with the possibility that Favreau wouldn't be back to direct the sequel, then the Howard debacle. At least this is one thing that seems to be going right.
Thanks to Matalo for the scoop.

Good stuff.
I have to admit this pleases me. I was really getting worried IM2 was headed the way of the dodo (X-Men 3 anyone? or any Fox movie lately)

I really wish they could mend the Ed Norton fence.

Howard was a non-entity in Iron Man. His performance was bursting with adequatulence, but little else. The only reason to keep him would be to appease continuity fiends.

I Don't understand this whole 'make friends again with Ed Norton' thing - I watched Incredible Hulk for the first time the other day and was stunningly underwhelmed by it, it SO wanted to be the TV series and that was it. And none of the action scenes matched up to the desert battle in Hulk. Much preferred the Angst Lee version.

yeah, my favorite part of Ang Lee's Hulk was the poodles...and the part where I fell asleep.

Lee's Hulk seems to be destined to be the most derided comic film ever. Baffling considering it remains one of the best (the last fight not withstanding).

You know how I know you're gay? You like Ang Lee's version of the Hulk.

The Hulk is a non-starter because the character sucks. Consider that it's relatively cheap to keep a bad comic running for decades, so longevity doesn't necessarily impart "classic" status (Spawn, anyone?) However, if I were to pick a film version of the Huk, I'd stick with Ang Lee's version, as it has everything "The Incredible Hulk" lacks... being a good story, great visual effects, good actors, good music.

I wish to heaven they'd replace Jackson instead of Howard. The Ultimates versions of Marvel's characters are horrible. Especially Captain America, who is more thug than patriot in the Ulimates universe.
I was hoping for the traditional Nick Fury, but we got this instead. Oh well.

Oliver, no. Howard brings nothing to the table, Cheadle's a rung short'a bein the man. It's a good move on their part to cut dead weight. Who's Favreau, John Ford? Get a handle on things, debacle is a silly word to use here.
