THE GREEN HORNET GETS A LITTLE LESS SERIOUS

Seth Rogen is keeping busy. He's got Judd Apatow's Funny People happening right now, and then next year he's going to be starring in The Green Hornet, directed by the amazing Stephen Chow.I've talked to Seth about The Green Hornet a number of times in the last year, most recently on the set of Observe and Report. There he said that the film would be pretty serious, and that he and co-writer Evan Goldberg weren't looking to do a send up. But that was before Stephen Chow, known for his comedic take on action, came on board. Which means The Green Hornet may be getting a sense of humor.
"We feel no obligation to live up to anything I've said to any of you people in the past," Rogen told me today at the Zack & Miri press day. "When we're writing I can't go, 'Fuck, I told CHUD we weren't going to do that! Let's do it anyway!'
"Me and Evan [Goldberg] talk a lot of shit. We have one rule when writing, and that's don't get attached to anything. One day we want to make a serious film and then Stephen Chow comes in with a good idea and we're like, 'Well it's funny.' Should we not do it because we originally wanted to do a serious film? We come from, nah fuck it, we'll just take the idea that seems good. So it's definitely less serious than a serious film, that's for sure. We want the action... I say now that we want the action to play serious but Stephen could come in tomorrow and say 'You know what? I want to throw you 400 feet in the air!' and I'd go, 'OK, that sounds cool.'
"We're very open now. Right now is when we're in the process of deciding what this movie is going to be on a practical level. The story is the same; we've always known the story we wanted to tell, so it's easy within that to discuss the various sensibilities and reality levels and humor levels and stuff like that. To us, we hoped the director would come in and give us lots of ideas and directions to work with, and that's what he's doing."
He and Goldberg have been rewriting the script with Chow, who was actually holed up somewhere in the Four Seasons hotel while Rogen was doing the press rounds. According to Rogen, shooting should start in April or May.

Probably smart. I am not sure if I can see Rogan being a serious action star at this point of his career, or maybe even any point. This way his hands aren't tied behind his back. He can just do what he does best. Be funny.

So in other words: Never trust any "news" coming out of Seth's fat face or any "news" articles/written blowjobs about Seth Rogen from devin's fat fingers.
Gotcha.

People sure do seem to have a vested interest in Devin's weight. Not sure why they care though.
Stephen Chow as Kato does give me some hope for this movie.

Well I hope this wasn't supposed to make this movie sound any good.

People care about his weight because it's easy to make fun of bigger people. More so he's he/she is an arrogant prick.

'You know what? I want to throw you 400 feet in the air!'
Yeah, sure that sounds cool. I got an idea, just make the movie as preposterous as you possibly can and see who comes to see it.

The whole Devin is a Fat Fuck thing seems to have started in a forum thread about people hitting the gym etc and Devin chimed in with his usual scorn for anything he doesn't do himself. It's getting a tad tired, as is the whole Devin baiting thing, but I'm sure he'll do or write something that deserves it all over again in the next few days, so don't sweat it. What I don't get is who would be going into a Green Hornet movie expecting anything serious with such a kitsch old show as it's source material, with or without Seth Rogen in it, though I hope Goldberg and Rogen's more gritty/grounded style of comedy softens Chow's Loony-Tunes aesthetic.

The more funny this movie gets, the more it's gonna suck, wake up Rogan, didn't you see ANY of the orig Green Hornet shows? They were'nt about funny at all, that was for Batman

Seth and Evan shouldn't have been so attached to the drawing penises gag in Superbad.

Well I guess just you cant trust Seth.
He has said its was not a comedy and now he changes his mind.
Now lets see if he can get this version passed the Trendel family who owns the Green Hornet. I can see it now "... its about all kinds of goofy sight gags about drug usage and male genitalia Mr. Trendel?" "We also want to disrespect the portrayal Bruce Lee did on his version of the character of Kato."

"The story is the same; we've always known the story we wanted to tell"
That's my problem in a nutshell. I've never liked the stories Seth Rogen tells.
Can Stephen Chow save this film? Chow has a talent for putting heart into a story, but his sensibility is very surreal. Not what I was looking for in a Green Hornet film.

A lot of Chow's movies, like KING OF COMEDY, have a grittier feel. KFH and SHAOLIN SOCCER are awesome, but I think he downplayed some of the verbal and more intimately-scaled stuff to appeal to international audiences.

This version of the Green Hornet is going to suck big time..Like Chow but nobody can beat Bruce Lee as Kato. And to make this a comedy with Chow's looney tune cartoon HK type of comedy..Holy stinker Batman!

First off, I like Seth Rogen. So I'm not a hater and wanted to clear the air. Looking at this realistically though, they have two choices. If they're going to make a serious action film, they need to re-cast Seth. The age difference between him and Stephen Chow makes no sense. If they're going to make a comedy, they should keep Rogen, but he needs to be Britt Reid's long lost son. The Green Hornet gets (unfortunately) killed in the middle of stopping a major bad guy and Kato then learns of "jr." and decides to quickly train him to be his father's replacement and try to stop said bad guy. That would take care of the age difference and allow for a lot of comedic moments. Just my two cents.
