Zergling farmers around the world rejoiced at BlizzCon's announcement that StarCraft 2 will be released as a trilogy, with each race getting its own installment. According to Blizzard VP Rob Pardo, the subsequent two releases will be "...separate products. Look at the next two as expansion packs, but will have the feel of stand alone products." The installments include:
Wings of Liberty - Terran
Heart of the Swarm - Zerg
Legacy of the Void - Protoss
It's an unsurprising move given the success of Blizzard's other expansion packs, although it sounds like Pardo's trying to de-emphasize "expansion pack" and push a more episodic approach. Questions remain: Will the campaigns focus entirely on the featured race? Will multiplayer be affected for players who own different campaigns? Will Wings of Liberty get a release date prior to Mayan Doomsday?
No matter what, it's great to finally be getting a new StarCraft from Blizzard, even if it did take twelve years.

Yeah, but what's the price of having the creator of that Quarantine pop-up ad hung upside-down by his balls?

I second the motion.
Though Starcraft 2 does look pretty awesome.

Wait, so to have the same features (all three campaigns in one) of the original starcraft, I have to pay 3 times as much?
fuck that Blizzard - I'm gonna pirate the shit out of this and make sure everyone else does to - don't you make enough with your terrible WoW pricing scam?!

Yeah this is one for bittorrent. I'm not paying 150$ for a video game.

I third the quarantine pop-up dude torture. Blizzards just askin' for starcraft 2 to be pirated.

SC 2 would have been pirated regardless of what blizzard did. Btw this move reeks of milking the most out of the fans.

Milking people how? All Blizz has done is announce two expansion packs. Like that was news to anyone anyway. The only "news" is that the storyline for the single-player campaign will focus on a species at a time.
Will we get new units for the zerg and protoss in the expansions? Sure, but we'll get whatever counters the other races need as well. Just like with Brood War.
But go on, rationalize your pirating away however helps you sleep at night. And enjoy not playing on battle.net. $150 for a video game -- whatever. Blizzard is doing the EXACT SAME THING with SC as every successful franchise does.

That all depends on how you look at it, previous poster.
I guess I don't understand the need to seperate a product into three parts and charge for it that way. Granted there's no proof each will be maximum priced, but doing this, reeks of cash grab. If it's a case of paying premium for the core product and a minor amount for the add ons, then dependant on the price of the add ons, I may be able to accept that. If all 3 races are available for multi out of the initial games box, then sure that's ok. If each campaign is 30 - 40 missions long? Then I can handle that.
But if we get 10 - 12 missions long for each race, only able to use in multi when each is released etc... sorry but that's just a major con.
