FUNNY AS CANCER

Seth Rogen is tackling the C word. No, not Sarah Palin - it's worse than that.Cancer.
Rogen is producing I'm With Cancer, an autobiographical comedy written by Will Reiser, and he'll be taking a co-starring role as well. Reiser, a producer on Da Ali G Show and Best Week Ever found out he had cancer when he was 25. I'm assuming he hasn't yet died from it, as he's written this spec. Or maybe he did die and this is going to be the Brian's Song of cancer comedies.
If the film can stay clear of maudlin bullshit, I'm With Cancer could be really intriguing. And I like seeing Rogen putting his muscle behind a project like this; when I talked to him on the set of mall cop comedy Observe and Report, Rogen said that he felt it was important for someone in his position to help other talented people get places. I like that attitude.
What I do worry about is the degree of Rogen Exposure. Is it too high? Are we being overRogened? He's a terrific talent and an almost impossibly nice, down to earth guy, but backlashes are rarely based on reason. I want to see Seth continue to sit at the top and not be pulled down for the crime of working hard and often.

Listen Dev, I'm sure he's a nice enough fellow, but as a viewer, I'm not particularly impressed by his performances in anything. He plays the same unshaven, schlubby fat douche in every film he's in. The only reason I see this movie board giving him so much fallatio is the interviews, set visits he grants, also he more than likely resembles most of the visitors of these types of websites (excluding me of course, hehe.) Also, who made you his manager/boyfriend/mother? I cringe whenever I read the writers on this and any other board worry about their favorite artists, whether they're making the 'right decisions'. How about this, the fucker is rich, probably banging hot women who normally would'nt touch him, and is starring in big Hollywood epics. Yeah, he doesn't need you to worry for him like a worshipping fangirl.

You're totally one step closer to hanging with the Apatow gang, Devin. Keep shooting.

Ummm, at the risk of sounding like a fantastical creature of the internet culture, I can't help but have a troll-ish reaction to this. Isn't it hypocritical to bemoan the build-em-up bring-em-down system that you perpetuate with your articles? Yes, Devin, you just had your Shyamalamadingdong moment:
"It was the media's fault all along!"
Let's not pretend that the audience actually has a say in who remains on top. Critics influence opening numbers AND audiences. So if you had the flu and James Franco pissed you off this Friday, guess what? You just contributed to actor's jail funds with your piss and vinegar rant.

"No, not Sarah Palin - it's worse than that."
That was so unoriginal and lame it could pass as a Daily Show joke.
Oh, and Seth Rogen has such range as an actor. I love that one movie where he plays a sarcastic fat ass.

So, can anybody tell me where the Devin hate comes from? Seriously, does it stem from something specific, or is bashing literally EVERY article of his simply the "funny" or "cool" or "hip" thing to do? Just curious...

It's weird, but in this picture I think he looks like a white Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

Beard does not impress. Of poor quality.

When I read this thread title, I assumed the article was about me.

All the interfags are still pissed that Devin didn't blow a nerdgasm over Serenity or The Dark Knight, movies which they consider god's testicles. So they unleash their mighty vengeance. Via the talkback comments.

He's mildly entertaining, and who cares if he's a nice guy? I'll never meet him. A backlash would be perfectly justified.

You know what, I never heard of Rogen before sites like aintitcool and Chud started falling in love with Apatow's movies. What's the attraction, that he's a fat scruffy nerd, and (in the movies) ends up with hot chicks? He's living our, the fat and scruffy audience's dream? Personally, my backlash against Rogen is not rational ... I was utterly repulsed by that movie "Knocked Up", and the pandering to the fat and scruffy by pretending that anyone like Rogen could get a chick that hot in the sack, no matter how drunk she was.

A guy like Rogen could get a chick like that without getting her drunk. He just has to have a butload of cash or a massive penis. I don't recall him having either in Knocked Up, but that was fiction.

RE: Honestly Curious - Devin Bashing. No it's not the "cool" thing to do. If you want to know why people hate every word that comes out of that deflated basketball he calls a face, maybe you should read some of his articles. It's akin to watching retards eat cake, yes it's repulsive and disgusting, and they are indeed retarded, but you still can't help but watch. Reading Devin is like reading incompetent scribbles by a 7 year old hillbilly who has convinced himself that what he's writing is genius poetic gold. It's like getting slapped with a bag full of dumb. Please CHUD, please, please, please get rid of Devin. CHUD can be better than this.

Ah. Got it, Kevin. It's because people like you are a bunch of fucking clueless morons (with a Thesaurus, apparently). Thanks for clearing that up. Now, please, go cut off your balls so there will be no more of you out there in the future.

Retards like Fletcher Nelson dislike Seth Rogen. Do you little talkbackers want to be like Fletcher? You probably thought Knocked Up was sexist.

You know, I've been reading Devin's articles for a while now, and I'm not sure Kevin's description ("It's akin to watching retards eat cake") matches what I've seen. I mean, I liked Serenity and loved The Dark Knight, pretty much disagree with Devin on both of those fronts, and I still think he's the best writer on the site. It's called a difference of opinion, assholes. I guess since you emasculated nerdwads don't know how to actually have a discussion (or even a basic argument, for chrissakes) you just need to throw your colorful impotent jibes out at a guy you'll never be as intelligent as. Anyway, since I'm all for speaking to people in their own language so they can understand: Go blow Joss Whedon and Chris Nolan and get the fuck off of my computer, you fucking loser trolls.

The constant attacks against Devin in these front page comments are like roaches, and would instantly scatter if they had to log in. As the site's top writer, I don't understand why if they hate Devin so much they don't read another site - or at least skip his articles. I put it down to them having a birth to grave loser existance that is momentarily relieved with these attacks against someone whose shoes they admire.

I think the hatred of Devin (which is pretty widespread) comes not from his opinions, which can be just as irrational and laughable as anyone else's. The problem is that he exudes pompousness and self-importance every time he climes up on the soapbox. Like Nick used to before he was spectularly beaten down by the movie industry. Unlike Nick, who was mostly motivated by delusion, Devin exists to provoke others. He is basically a glorified troll himself, using this site to broadcast relentless negativity to anyone who will listen. He would be easier to ignore if he wasn't so obviously a disgusting, unlikeable person, as ugly on the inside as he is on the outside. I started out this post trying to be objective, but, you see the kind of reaction Devin provokes.

"...the crime of working hard and often" ? WTF could you possibly know about this sort felonious behaviour, Sir Bottom McFats ? Shoveling Twinkies into one's piehole doesn't count as "working." Just saying. And should Rogen show signs of burning out his unlikely star, I'm certain the first person he'll come to for career advice will be you. For tips on shoveling them Twinkies. (Bow-chick-a-bow-bow!)
