Cinematical just debuted the poster Dear Zachary: A Letter To A Son About His Father, a much buzzed-about documentary that played at Slamdance this year. I haven't seen the movie, and now this poster is guaranteeing that I really, really want to see it. In my head I know it's just marketing working really well, but this poster grabs me and makes me really want to see what else this film has up its sleeve.
Here's the synopsis for Dear Zachary:
On November 5, 2001, Dr. Andrew Bagby was murdered in a parking lot in western Pennsylvania; the prime suspect, his ex-girlfriend Dr. Shirley Turner, promptly fled the United States for St. Johnʼs, Canada, where she announced that she was pregnant with Andrewʼs child. She named the little boy Zachary.
Filmmaker Kurt Kuenne, Andrewʼs oldest friend, began making a film for little Zachary as a way for him to get to know the father heʼd never meet. But when Shirley Turner was released on bail in Canada and was given custody of Zachary while awaiting extradition to the U.S., the filmʼs focus shifted to Zacharyʼs grandparents, David & Kathleen Bagby, and their desperate efforts to win custody of the boy from the woman they knew had murdered their son.
What happened next, no one ever could have foreseen coming...

This film played the SILVERDOCS doc festival in DC this year. It is heartbreaking and devastating. Highly recommended.

No, it actually looks like every bland indie rock album cover of the last 5 years.

It's nice, but "stunningly excellent" is an "alarmingly enormous" exaggeration.

It is tragic indeed what happened to Zachary, you can look it up on Wikipedia. Living in Australia we heard about it too when it went down, it was really sad. As a parent it'll break my heart to see this and I know it'll be worse for people with grandchildren who are in similair situations... bravo to the makers of this film. These are the sort of tales that we need to see, to learn from. Hopefully it'll help some of the bitter people involved in custody cases wake up to themselves and get help.

How is it possible to "spoil" a true story. It isn't like this story wasn't international news. LAME!
