While growing up, one of my favorite things to do was head out to the drive-in with family and friends. In those days it wasn't just simply going to the movies, it was an event. More often than not, a gang of us would pile into one or two cars (some of us in the trunk to avoid paying admissions) on long weekends and bring along a cooler full of beers (or other -ahem- illicit substances), a baseball and gloves, a football - you name it. We'd park in the back row, as not to obscure other people's vision, and have at 'er for the whole night. Swigging brews, resting to take in one or two of the four features, and having more laughs than I could count.

Sadly those days are long gone, as most drive-ins around the country have since gone the way of the dodo. You can find the odd one here and there throughout the country, of course, but unfortunately the glory days of all-night creature-features are long behind us...sort of.

While the following may be out of reach for most of you, there may be a few of you that might be able to make it to the Drive-In Super Monster Rama going on at the Riverside Drive-In on historic Route 66 this September 12-13 in Vandergrift, PA.

The lineup for the first night: Cry of the Banshee, Frogs, Night of the Living Dead, and The Crazies. I don't know about you, but the two Romero classics alone would be enough for me to get my posterior off the couch.

The second night: Blacula, The Return of Count Yorga, Dracula vs. Frankenstein, and The Werewolf vs.The Vampire Woman. Woo-hoo! How's that for a B-movie extravaganza?!

Tickets are only $10, and kids under 12 are free, as long as they're accompanied by a parent or guardian.
