Russ Fischer
Russ Fischer is the CHUD utility player. Part editor, part fixer, part monkey butler. Still in Atlanta after a wholly unexpected run of 6 years and counting. He's not so secretly waiting for Jeremy Davies to come through on his intention to unite the efforts of Werner Herzog and Lars von Trier.

One of '07's best and weirdest is finally getting a real release.

YOUR OWN PRIVATE WINNIPEG

One of my very favorite films of 2007 was Guy Maddin's idiosyncratic pseudo-documentary My Winnipeg. Maddin has called the city of Winnipeg his home throughout his life, but imagines making a geographical and artistic exodus through this film, which recreates and chronicles his own family history alongside that of the city.

But it's a Guy Maddin movie, so there's nothing so simple as a bunch of Ken Burns photo zooms going on. In the absence of any convenient explanation, I present the trailer, now hosted at Apple. The clip gets the tone and oddity of the film across without giving away the funniest and most memorable bits.

If this movie plays anywhere near you, I urge you to check it out. Yes, the image above is a number of horses frozen in a lake. Yes, there's more like that in the movie. Just go.
