Shyamalan's latest is sold with (slightly) more subtlety to folks abroad.
THIS INTERNATIONAL TRAILER IS REALLY HAPPENING
Watching the new international trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, I'm thrown into full on Charlie Kaufman mode. Happening happening. Happening? Happening happening happening, happening. Happening happening happening happening happening; happening happening! The script seems to use the titular word more than John McClane says 'fuck'.
This clip doesn't bother trying to present the tie between the film and the current bee crisis (a truly frightening and monumental story which Shyamalan and Fox managed to turn trite in the first trailer) and goes instead for the "Shyamalan remakes The Signal" angle, which justifies a liberal use of Wahlberg and Deschanel's 'O' faces. I'm struggling to stay positive here.
