A WORLD WITHOUT RULES, A DARK KNIGHT POSTER WITH BALLS

Marketing folks at Warner Brothers: you have my address. Please mail the above to it. Thank you.
This latest poster for the brilliantly hyped The Dark Knight appeared on the WhySoSerious viral website today, and I'm at a loss. Though Batman Begins is a fatally flawed movie, nearly everything offered up in support of Christopher Nolan's follow-up suggests that we're getting the Batman movie we've wanted ever since Frank Miller rethought the character in the mid-80s. This stunning one-sheet is just the latest piece of marketing to drive me wild. Please don't fuck this up.

Awesome poster.
THE DARK KNIGHT's gonna rock.

A truly awesome poster.
bad. ass. my only concern is that they might cut a lot of ledger out of the movie for PR reasons. Does anyone have any info on that, or are they pretty-much staying with Nolan's cut notwithstanding the recent death?
batman is my favorite superhero.

I dont think Begins is fatally flawed. It has excellent replay value, and really the only things that truly suck are the superfast fight scene edits (which i think was a good idea in theory that didnt work out on film) and katie holmes. the bruckheimer-esque ending was a little disappointing as well. Sure, its a little slow, but the time taken to develop all of the characters is worth it, and overall its a fantastic reboot and a great first entry on which to build a franchise.
Which they seem to be doing. TDK is looking like the batman equivalent to The Empire Strikes Back. If begins brought batman back from the dead, it looks like TDK will shoot batman back to the top of the hollywood superhero food chain, not financially, because batman is not a FX driven movie like spiderman, and isnt nearly as kid friendly, but artistically.
i'd like to end all that high brow movie speak by saying this poster is fucking mindblowing, and full of large brass balls. the TDK marketing team should get an honorary fucking oscar for everything they are doing.

Fuck yeah! Batman 1, Building 0......The rules are there are no rules! Wait a minute...are we supposed to think batman just got framed, or that batman is now a terrorist?
Comment #8 (Posted by Bob Loblaw Law Blog)
Heath Ledger's performance isn't getting cut down. Nolan has said he wants to honor Heath and isn't going to alter the film in any way because of his death. It appears the studio is also backing him up on this.
Comment #9 (Posted by Tony Scarboni)
I didn't really care for batman begins. I thought Nolan's visual style was boring compared to Burton's, and his villians were underused. Katie Holmes sucked and I thought the batmobile was tacky as all hell. And what was the deal w/ having Ken Wanatabe in the movie if he's only in it for like half a scene?
Awesome fucking poster, unless they come out with a better one I'll buy the shit out of it.
So I guess the big studios' fear of negative reaction to 9/11 imagery in super-hero movie ads (ie, Spider-Man's WTC campaign) is over. Goddamn.
Thank fuck for that. You really think Ledger would have wanted them to cut his part out of it? Hell no!
Cutting his part down is insulting for an actor who is alive
Comment #13 (Posted by Justin Quizon)
God, I feel like you guys are so in the minority on your thoughts on Batman Begins. Whatever the case, I do agree with you on that poster. That poster has balls, bigs ones.
They are definitely in the minority with Batman Begins. If anyone on CHUD could afford freakin HBO/MAX over the last year and a half. They would have seen that movie enough to realize how bloody awesome it truly is. This is why CHUD is the preminent website for broke geeks everywhere!
Only you boring nerds at this site think Batman begins is fatally flawed, an incredibly entertaining and well made movie that you can watch over and over again with some of the best music to film sync ever.
I loved "Batman Begins" and thought the much despised second half was terrific. Particularly clever was how the movie used the fear gas to turn the Arkham nutjobs (and Dr. Crane) into (presumably) Batman's rogue gallery of super villains. I thought Holmes was only bad in one scene (a particularly terrible line delivery) and the fight scenes over edited, etc. I've seen the movie many times and I rank it just behind "Superman: The Movie" as the best superhero movie of all time. Btw, love the site, visit everyday.
Whoever said Batman movies are more 'artistic' than Spider-Man films...it's a fucking guy in a skin-tight rat suit, implausibly getting around in a big-assed Super Hummer and escaping police and criminals in the day and age of satellite photography and cameras on ever freakin' corner of every street, even watching me pee as I type. Jeezus...Superhero movies can suck my ass, I'm done with em.
I love this poster. Loved it even more when I saw it on every other movie site on Earth before you posted it. Are you guys determined to be dead last on every bit of news out there? have you even posted about Del Toro getting the Hobbit yet? Can you guys maybe get with the news bits and worry less about the self-felating comics and Hawaii trip memoirs.
This poster gives me mixed feelings. I'm not really sure I understand what it is trying to say. Are we supposed to realize that Batman is someone we should all fear?
I personally wouldn't dig it if my local super-hero blew up a building to let the bad guys know he isn't taking any shit and he's willing to go to their level. It's an interesting image.
John, I partially agree. I love the angle and the idea of the fiery symbol on the building. But I think this poster is a mess. Too much text. And Batman standing there crowds it up. Maybe the fact that I dislike the helmet design doesn't help. I'm excited about the movie, for sure. I love the Why So Serious? joker poster from a few months back. This one, while well made and good enough, doesn't hit me as being special. Not awed that way the whole internet seems to be. Movis is gonna rock though.
I think they might have put the wrong bulb in the batsignal... Fuck, what is it with the Burton-babies? If you want Camp, go rewatch the 60s TV show. Burton was reffing that and Chuck Jones cartoons, not the comics of the 80s. In The Dark Knight Returns Miller also used a military vehicle for the Batmobile. If you don't like the new ride, there's always the saturday morning cartoons.
Wow, this looks like fun for the whole family... If the family happen to be sado-masochistic circus freaks. Begins didn't engage me and Ledger will be my only reason for checking this out... on DVD!

Batman Begins is flawed because the third act of the picture totally collapses into penis. But it's still 2/3rds of a superb film. Couldn't be more excited for The Dark Knight. This poster is excellent, though I would ask from now on that we have a moritorium on "flaming logo" superhero posters. The idea is SO played out.
Dear CHUD, please learn the phrase In My Humble (Fucked) Opinion. Most of us like Begins quite a lot. I don't normally mind your arrogance, but then you're not normally so fucking wrong.
HAHAHA - anyone that complains about this beng "too crowded", and Batman Begins being fattally flawed, thanks for makig me laugh - you guys have to be the saddest bunch of people on the planet. Reading (and writing for that matter) on a sight like this DOESN'T make you an authority on films. Thanks guys i needed that lol go back to your iron maiden cds and Tim Burtons movies
Comment #27 (Posted by Bor)
I think Bruce watched the Punisher-movie one too many times.
this poster reminds me of fight club
BurmaShave, since when was any 2-word comment on a movie anything but opinion?
ugh are u guys retarded? do u think batman would blow the fuck out of a building just so he could put his emblem on it? it's obviously a joker attack to attract batz, maybe people have never read the comics, but the joker loves theatrics, and explosives, the poster is a clear indicator of both. Awesome poster, can't wait for this movie. The Joker is the best Villain...ever! I dont think anyone can argue that, he's the perfect opposite to the hero. Can't wait to see Ledger's performance, from what iv seen it looks intense.
Why is Batman looking so smug when that building is on fire? Shouldn't he be doing something?
Nolan refused to cut any ledgers scenes as a respect to the late actor. This movie will raise Ledger to superstardom.
This poster announcement would have been so much better had you not thrown in the "fatally flawed" comment. You suck as a human being, seriously. In a perfect work you would not be let into the theater to see The Dark Knight.
I really, really like BATMAN BEGINS but how can all of you guys not realize the third act fucks the movie? No amount of semantic arguing you come up with will negate the fact Batman kills Ra's Al Ghul at the end. And that murder contradicts everything that had been set up about Batman's moral code in the first 1 1/2 hours of the movie.
So Batman's torching buildings now? I just didn't like Batman Begins, plain, flat out didn't like it. I'm glad i waited until it was on TV so it didn't cost me anything but 2 hours I can't get back. Fuck batman and all his little boy wonders queueing up to kiss his ass on this site.
first time on this site looking for batman news and dudes, you got to be kiding me! You're all over-thinking all of this! Just watch the movie! This is why normal people like me can't go see superhero movies without being embarresed!
So glad this is set in Chicago. I live right by where a lot of this was shot. Getting a little tired of seeing New York in every movie. No offense to New York, it's a great city, but seeing a movie like this in Chicago is pretty awesome.
It was cool when the whole burning logo appeared in "The Crow", alright in "The Punisher", this....meh.
A fatally flawed movie. Please tell me you said that for effect? If not then the powers that be here on this site need to pull your review card! Cus your just plain bat shit crazy. Batman Begins may have not been perfect but to call it fatally flawed... Not by any means. One of the best Batman movies made is more like it. And when put up against the likes of Superman Returns, Spiderman 2 and 3, X-Men 3, I could keep going. I would say you have one of the best superhero to big screen movies in a long, long time. Bring on the Dark Knight!
Come on; Yes, Batman Begins was a great flick, but that third act denouement blew dick. It clashed tonally with the rest of the film. First it was striving for "realism", then it decided to abandon all of that effort in the name of a silly macguffin like that Water Evaporator Doomsday Device? As long as The Dark Knight picks a tone and stays consistent, I'll swallow whatever it puts on my plate.
"Though Batman Begins is a fatally flawed movie..."
No, Chud.com is a fatally flawed website, it's only use is because it's one of the only websites not blocked where I work for some strange reason.
"Chud: Where Fantastic 4 is better than Batman Begins!"
Dark Knight is going to be great but I think most knew that when we saw that first trailer with Joker dialogue. They won't cut Leger's performance because it's the BIG selling point.
More interesting is the viral marketing of this film compared to other films marketing, especially Cloverfield. This is not only the most fun marketing campaign I have ever seen but it's effecting people in my city as well since there are radio stations mentioning the sites and talking about it. They get a lot wrong or outdated but still it's getting past just the nerds and movie geeks. I want to be a viral marketer when I grow up!!!
Actually, that Water Evaporator Doomsday Device really does exist, or at least the technology for it. The military has been doing tests with this stuff for years now. I guess the movie stuck to its "realism" on that aspect.

What is this, robocop 4?

"No amount of semantic arguing you come up with will negate the fact Batman kills Ra's Al Ghul at the end. And that murder contradicts everything that had been set up about Batman's moral code in the first 1 1/2 hours of the movie."
Before escaping, Batman says something to the effect of "I'm not going to kill you, but I don't have to save you." Ra's Al Ghul made the decision to ride the train to Wayne tower, where the water supply was centered, fully knowing that when his little evap-o-matic hit that building it would destroy it. It was a suicide mission that he knowingly went on, to sacrifice himself to cleanse gotham city. Batman didn't kill him technically, just stopped him from finishing his mission. Is it a brutal type of justice? Yes. Would I actually have preferred him pulling Ra's out and arresting him? I don't know. The decision amplifies the complex notion of Batman: a vigilante, yet a necessary one. He himself is a type of contradiction, which is part of the draw to the character. If he had become a cop, he would in no way be able to have the effect he does as Batman. But in upholding the law, he is in fact breaking it, and his actions in turn cause many more problems. This is what I love about Nolan's approach to these movies. The notion of a character that iss nearly as psychotic as the people he's fighting against, the only difference being a sense of morality. He's actually asking whether or not Batman is truly a hero, or a necessary anamoly in a city full of nutcases.

My favorite part of Batman Begins is when Batman jumps his fucking car over the river and just happens to land right next to the one asshole in the whole city he needs to talk to, the commish. That scene, and the gooftastic shit that ensues is the Bane to the movie's backbone. People on this site rag on BB not because it's a shitty movie, but because it's an awesome movie with a few small parts that are so incomprehensibly stupid it's like somebody shit in the pool. Stop acting like the movie has nothing wrong with it. I get the feeling the people who are excited for TDK are the same type of people who took 2 years to realize The Phantom Menace failed similarly as BB.
It's a fucking superhero movie, people. I realize it's taking a realistically styled approach, but Batman still gets to do fantastic, super-hero business like jump his car over a bridge or fly through the air, or destroy a runaway train.
Quit pissing on Batman Begins for not living up to your ultra-realistic verite wet dreams. It's a super-hero movie. Enjoy it.

Your gooftastic mom thought Batman Begins was flawed as well. She also swallows my aids-infected cum for a dollar. Hope she gave you a kiss goodnight, junior.
Comment #50 (Posted by Jake Vitanza)
Batman Begins is a great movie with only a couple of flaws, but it's definitely NOT "fatally flawed." And as far as The Dark Knight goes, it will probably be the best movie of the year. Christopher Nolan ALWAYS produces quality movies (just check out Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, etc.) Is there any Nolan movie that is not good? TDK will honestly blow everyone away, and not just because the whole Heath Ledger ordeal. The people behind this movie are absolute geniuses. Anyone who says otherwise is a fucking moron.
You're an idiot. The first film was not fatally flawed you fucking moron. That was a brilliant movie and by far THE BEST Batman flick ever made. Since it will be the same creative team for TDK, this film will not disappoint.
Fatal? Cling to your VHS copy of Batman 89' because the cartoon emo, er enema vision of batman is out.
