That actually sounds pretty sweet. Although I didn't really care for 300 or Dawn of the Dead, what I've seen of Watchmen looks promising enough to where I'm not worried(Watchmen is my favorite book). Snyder seems like a genuinely cool guy as well

Remer, do you mean Watchmen is your favorite comic book, or do you mean it's your favorite book, period? Cos, I mean, I'm sure it makes me an elitist snob/intellectual blah blah blah to say so, but if it's your favorite book, period... that is sad. (If you did just mean comic, than forget I said anything, cheerio.)

I don't see anything sad about the watchmen being a favorite book at all, and don't worry about being mistaken as intellectual for such claims.

When I think of my favorite books Watchmen is always right there at the top of the list.
I guess that makes me a moron.

With every new tidbit, this project gets more exciting. It's awesome to see so much enthusiasm and dedication going into making this film.

If someone is dedicated enough, I bet we'll see a commercial for Ozymandias action figures in the movie.

Why can't Watchmen be a favorite book? You're aware Time named it one of the top 100 books, period, of the 20th century? Also, I was really excited about this movie until I heard a rumor that the ending had been changed to something studio-approved. Anyone know if there's any truth to that? I'm all for changes to make something work better on screen, but to change Watchmen's ending is fucking retarded. I feel like it's one of the most fitting endings of all time.

I don't have a problem with him claiming it his favorite book because it may or may not be a comic book. Hell, a choose your own adventure book could be his favorite and I wouldn't care. I have a problem with him saying its his favorite book simply because The Watchmen a piece of trash by novel or comic book standards.
But decent idea for a contest. I will say that.

"The Watchmen a piece of trash by novel or comic book standards"
We are all thinking of the same book right? Watchmen is so well constructed, I can get someone not liking it, but there's no way you could dismiss it as trash.

The problem about Watchmen being your "favorite book" isn't that it's bad, it's that it's primarily a genre deconstruction of super heroes. Essentially having Watchmen be your favorite book means that you primarily read super hero comics.

No, having Watchmen be your favorite book means Watchmen is your favorite book. It has no effect on whether you primarily read super hero comics. That doesn't mean you don't read superhero comics, but one doesn't cause the other.

Joseph,
A well told story is a well told story-- period. I would assume an "intellectual" would know that.

FUCK. The reason why Watchmen is some people's favourite BOOK is because it is one of the best BOOKS ever written. Millions of people who aren't really into comics have read watchmen and clearly most have enjoyed it. Perhaps those who are into comics get more out of it but it doesn't diminish a great work. Incidentally Watchmen is not about super heroes, there's only one super-powered individual and he doesn't really qualify as a hero. Incidentally I hoped Snyder would do something like this so that the watchmen universe could get even more texture and allow the fans to contribute in some way.

I actually just finished Watchmen and outside of slight interest in comics when I was younger I really haven't read many comics for more than a couple issues, usually borrowing them from a friend. That being said, Watchmen blew me away. I can see why it is one of the top 100 books of all time. Every frame of the book is meaningful and extremlely well plotted out. Basically, like reading a movie. It is incredibly complex yet very accessible. I agree about the ending, if they change it, the movie is going to be shit. Why make it if you don't have the balls to make it right. I actually am reading The Beach right now and I laughed out loud because there is like 4 sentences that reference Watchmen(Rorschach and the boat made of corpses) in the book. Glad I read it, else I would have had no idea what the author was talking about. Highly reccomend this "comic"....."book"

Side note: I know Rorshach was not the one on the boat of corpses. No need to waste your anger. Both were reference though

I've read David Hayter's script and Alex Tse's script, but i've never read the comic book. The Hayter script was the best, don't know why they re-wrote it. It had some really nice touches. But I actually didn't see what was so special about all this watchmen stuff. It has good characters, but it needs some more dynamic (yet justifiable) action/fantasy to make it competitive with the Dark Knights of the world.
Guess I'm wrong?

Nice, cool, awesome, whatever you wanna call it--I like the way producers are thinking the marketing for their products.. I mean, movies
