GUILLERMO DEL TORO GETS CLOSER TO THE SHIRE

Guillermo del Toro checked in at the official Hellboy II message board to drop some information about the status of The Hobbit. He's been very careful to let people know that nothing is set in stone yet, and that things can always change, but his latest communique sounds pretty optimistic:
Whew- Not yet. BUT there has been a lot of movement. And for the last few weeks there has been a lot of creative / cast / crew / visual talks and agreements and we have witnessed great progress in areas that I cannot disclose or that have already leaked from other sources.
I am dying to share news but I have to be patient and wait until the papers are done and my attachment is real. Nevertheless- a LOT of progress in defining the films, their cast and crew. And, may I add, we are all happily in synch about all creative aspects so far and all willing and eager to move forth.
I cannot say more but if all´s well the time will come To talk of many things: Of shoes -- and ships -- and sealing wax -- Of cabbages -- and kings --
May Luck be with us
GDT
PD my silnece means nothing more than the fact that we are RUNNING against an impossible deadline on the HBII film, poster, campaign, ADR, VFX, etc I am SWAMPED.
BUT- Expect good things in the next 2 weeks and a nice item at COMICON. See you there-
That sounds like the GDT I know and love - working his ass off to make this movie as perfect as he can. And he's not a bullshitter; if he says that things are progressing well and that people are coming together creatively, it's happening.
We'll keep our eyes and ears open in the next two weeks, as he says, and we'll see what happens.

You gotta love GDT, even though Hellboy was the TMNT treatment of the character. You know it's true.

I love Del Toro, but I'm really struggling to get excited about this. 'Lord of the Rings' is done. 'The Hobbit' really isn't much of a story. We've seen enough of Middle Earth already. I'd much rather see Guillermo doing what we know he really wants to do - doing 'At The Mountains of Madness' and giving us the first true Lovecraft movie.

The Hobbit isnt much of a story? Really? Are you kidding me? Stop reading Hobbit's sinopsis on Wikipedia and read the actual book. Its a great epic prequel.

Iam much more interested in At the Mountains of Madness, than this. But I am just grateful to see such a genuinely talented director have such good options in this business that too often hurls money at the Michael Bays and Paul WS Andersons of the world.

"The Hobbit isn't much of a story" = "Haven't read the book". Adelante Guillermo, haznos disfrutar.

Simon west or bay wouldn't have been given this project. Studio's are stupid but when it comes to a billion dollar franchise built by a director with some pedigree, they ain't that fucking stupid. I'm gonna chime in here and say I'd much rather see del toro do at the mountains of madness rather than the hobbit. Wasn't universal countering former new line/WB for Del toro with better offers? Surely he'd rather do hellboy 3 and Mountains rather than the hobbit...

Personally, I think PJ is way overrated. After the Fellowship the "Lords" movies lose a lot of steam. It will be interesting to see another directors take on this. And thank god he was diverted from directing the atrocity that would have been the Halo movie.

can devin not write a single GDT article without dropping he knows him? when the critic seeks to become on level with those he criticizes, all journalistic objectivism is gone. this isn't news as told by faraci, it's self-aggrandizing fanboy bullshit. we might as well be in his basement rolling a twelve-sided die, listening to the fat kid lie about the girls he's fingered. sheesh.

So you were lying about that girl? I knew it!

Two things that are way ore important then GDT involvement...
Ian McKellan, will he return?
and will Weta again journey back to Middle Earth?
without those two, hell, even throw in Andy Serkis as Gollum, this movie will blow....

Would much rather have a good Lovecraft movie than another Tolkien. I enjoyed the movies but stretching the thin story of the Hobbit into two movies just so we can have a cameo-fest doesn't excite me.

I think del Toro will do a much better job than Peter Jackson on Lord of the Rings, which was woeful. I agree that the Hobbit is a great yarn, definitely worthy of a film treatment.

Seriously, what a perfect match up this would be! And who or what will Ron Perlman play?

Mountains. Do it, GDT! This is your life's calling! Then do Cthulhu.

I am so digging this! If true, so cool.

I like GDT. But I don't think THE HOBBIT is good enough to be adapted to the screen. I've red it. It's pretty boring.

heh. You've 'red' it, eh. The Hobbit is a perfect story to be adapted to the screen. Hopefully GDT will do as well as Peter Jackson did in th LOTR. BTW, those that LOTR was 'woefull,' about a billion people disagree.
