LEAVE UWE BOLL ALONE!

It used to be easy to be on the Uwe Boll hate bandwagon. 'Hey, this guy makes terrible movies! Let's bemoan it endlessly!' But then awareness creeped in: who cares that Uwe Boll makes terrible movies*? Not only is no one making you see Dr. Boll's movies, he's making films that are adaptations of properties that you have to be mildly touched to care about in the first place. You mean he ruined Bloodrayne? Oh noes. The other thing that makes the Dr. Boll hate hard to understand is that he gets it. He didn't always - he used to rage about his image - but lately he's been playing it up. The guy understands that he won't get people into his movies based on their quality, so he's turned into a professional wrestling version of Ed Wood, a guy who takes it to the haters, sometimes physically (by the way, the event where Boll beats on critics is documented in the film Heckler**, and some of the guys he takes on in the ring haven't even seen Boll's films. The guy is a meme, not a filmmaker. I love that). Now he's told FearNet that a petition asking him to stop making movies - which has 18,000 signatures -will not be successful until 1 million people sign it.
I implore you not to sign this petition! Dr. Boll is one of the shining lights of the genre world right now, a guy who is more fun to read about than his terrible, terrible movies. Boll is, without a doubt, a completely incompetent filmmaker but since when has that ever stopped us? What if the internet was around in the 50s - would there be a petition begging Ed Wood to stop? In the 60s would people have been imploring Roger Corman to cut it out with the cheapies and rip offs? Here's the thing: you don't have to wait twenty years to enjoy something that's bad. And Dr. Boll is making it easy for you.
So to the other web guys out there: lay of Dr. Boll's back. He's out there busting his butt to make us laugh. And since most of his movies don't get press screenings, there's really no reason for you to care about him other than as a terrific kook.
* Dave Parker cares, but he's one of the only people legitimately allowed to feel that way.
** Which has an extraordinarily handsome cast.

Besides the tax laws and what not that allowed him to fund his movies is getting axed. Don't hate on a man while he's down!

Fuck that, I'm still signing that shit!!!

I have to admit that that as far as bad fantasy movies go 'Dungeon Seige" was actually kinda decent. It was better than "Deathstalker" and "Red Sonja". It was certainly no "Beastmaster" but I found it pretty watchable. "House of the Dead" made me want to die, and "Bloodrayne" was 'tarded, but I have to give credit where credit is due.

Wow. Disliking Batman, liking Fantastic Four, defending Uwe Boll, how much longer is this Faraci going to be taken seriously. Oh, that's right, he writes on a website...nevermind.
Wow, way to make a stand 'unknown user'...keep the baseless, no to mention useless, critcism coming.
Comment #6 (Posted by Angry Mean Panda)
Yes, because "Joey" reveals so much more than "Unknown User". Faraci is a fucking joke.
Amen, brother! The man has passion and enthusiasm for his films, which is more than you can say about more than half of the directors working today.

Well, he made Mirajeff AICN puke out his guts and suck on an oxygen tank, so he can't be that bad of a guy.

Although I agree with him 100% here, Devin is starting to get a little predictable with his anti-majority rants. I'm surprised he doesn't have a Zune.

I dont weather to take this seriously or not. First, its lackluster videogame properties he's making into lackluster films, not original to semi-original ideas like Ed Wood or Rodger Corman had put to film. And also Devin, you realize just how far 18,000 is from 1,000,000 right? How about lets worry when it breaks 250,000. I didnt know anything about this petition before but I do now, so ummm thanks I guess? Sorry to keep taking the opposing side against you Devin, but recently I just cant help it with some of these pieces man.

I love seeing frustrated, angry game players (and imbecilic kiddies) getting angrier and more frustrated because of Uwe. And Uwe might save games that I actually like from turning out like half-dried turds. I'd much rather have a hilariously awful game-based film like "Bloodrayne" than a 30%-good, 70%-horrible mess like "Hitman". And Uwe guarantees the former every time! Bless Boll!

Personally, I love watching Dr. Boll Cinema. I wouldn't pay to see it in the theater, but it's always a hilariously worthwhile watch on DVD. I still love Michael Madsen's "performance" in Bloodrayne! He really got into the part of "drunk, homeless man", or was it "vampire hunter." Eh, same thing. My favorite Bloodrayne moment though is during a war scene, TWO random soldiers are furiously stabbing an already severed torso while the battle rages around them! I will never sign a petition! Not while the good doctor continues his terrible, terrible winning streak! I'll leave you with one other favorite moment that is classicly AWEful. The end of House of the Dead. If you haven't seen it, I have three words: Tornado Camera Syndrome. YES!

We should start a petition to ask Devin to quit writing anything on the internet.
Comment #15 (Posted by Devin is at CHUD)
hey Devin, if you don't want people to sign this petition, don't write an article informing us this list exsists. You just handed the petition to another few hundred signatures. Good job.

Boll has his place in the world of movies, its fucking big enough anyways. But who gives a shit if you defend the guy or totally tear him down. Devin is one of the best on THE best movie site (Variety makes me want to piss in my eyeballs) but sometimes i think he writes stuff just to go against the grain whether he feels that way or not. Reading his reviews and articles, i find myself stopping and saying to myself "Didn't he tear down the exact same thing he is now praising"....but its all good...on a sidenote: i wonder how many people give ed wood more credit than he deserves because tim burton made a kick ass movie about him?

Seriously, see "Postal". It's one of the great film I have seen last summer at Fantasia in Montreal. I doubt it comes out in the US. Even Boll play in his own movie as a bad director making moveis with stolen nazi gold!

I would sign a petition to given devin AIDS. Not just normal AIDS. Super AIDS.

I love ya, Dev. But when did you start championing mediocrity? It's happening a lot lately. (I mean, I remember when you went on a rabid, personal crusade to drive away BobClark, 70's Cinema, & Moltisanti. Now you defend Phil Owen & Uwe Boll!?!) Parden me, if I'm beating a dead horse. I just don't understand this shift. It's frusterating to see.

POSTAL sucks, like any other movie of the BOLL!Unlike Devin says,BOLL takes himself and his "art" very serious. He still freaks out when people make fun of him and his "movies"!BOLL is a idiot who got lucky.I still cant believe that nobody paid a pro Boxer to kick BOLL's ass at the "Boxing"event. What a piece of shit BOLL is.FUCK HIM!
Hasn't Boll proven he sucks? Wouldn't that money and those casts (which are often pretty impressive considering the talent level) be better utilized if handed to a first-time director with no discernible skill? There are other would-be filmmakers who are aching to flush money down the toilet, but with director's like Boll, they are not even given the chance. It's just a damn shame.

YES dude. Oh my god. I was just talking about this with my friend. Uwe Boll is the raddest motherfucker of all time. Fact: He makes shitty movies, and continues to make shitty movies. Fact: He challenged people who thought his movies were shitty to FIGHT. That is the coolest thing ever. I don't see how you can't like that. I've ever only seen bits and peices of his movies, and they are terrible enough to be hilarious, so thats not a bad thing. Anyway, yes, Dr. Uwe Boll is the shit. I am a Uwe Boll fan.

I don't hope Devin gets Super AIDS, but can we please give Boll Speedy AIDS - the kind where you don't even get time to go robe shopping? linger longer
Comment #24 (Posted by Rob)
Ed Wood was some sort of anti-genius with an abundance of passion and an equal lack of talent and resources. Uwe Boll has the resources but no talent or passion. He's like 100 other DTV hacks, except that his focus on adapting videogames has guaranteed him notoriety and vituperation from a certain geek circle. If his films weren't based on pre-existing franchises he wouldn't even have the dubious reputation that he has. Of course, the fact that he's probably made more films by now than Orson Welles was allowed to finish is its own condemnation.

I am Super AIDS and I do not endorse Somalian warlord's message.
Devin, I take it that Uwe Boll gave you an exclusive interview or set visit or something for you to suddenly give a fart about Boll's feelings?
Hell, did anyone outside of the SW fanbase gave a damn about FANBOYS until you made a stink about it?
Think about it Devin, if you are being sincere, you fail your own cause at times by highlighting it.

So.. now CHUD bashes good movies *AND* defends Uwe Boll..? Right.
Comment #28 (Posted by l. vernon)
devin, i have never understood y people hate, but now i truly truly do...i hate u wid a seething passion for defending this man, wat kind of a shitty MOVIE website defends some who makes SHITTTY movies, really is this wat its come to?! uwe boll is single handedly destroying the video game movie genre, because of him people look at the it as a joke, both bloodrayne, alone in the dark and far cry had potential as movie if handle correctly (believe it or not some people like bloodrayne douche bag) and for u to say this hack has passion for his movies (so much passion he doesnt even understand the fundmentals of film making and script wrtiting..read the alone in dark interview wid the original script writers) disgust me. i of now hate u...i hope u and boll both end up in the bottom of whole cause u miss the warning sign cause ur too busy blowing him!

Like many of you I have seen several thousand movies. Although Mr. Bolls movies are bad they are still entertaining. I have seen tons of other movies that are a lot worse than his. I will support Mr Boll to the end. His movies keep me entertained. Look at Lucio Fulci's Zombie, the movie is really really bad, yet it is a cult classic, entertaining, and a favorite. Mr. Bolls movies are really really bad but entertaining and in the near future they will be cult classics. Your children will be enjoying Mr Bolls films as you now enjoy movies from the 70s and 80s. I have jumped off of the Hate Uwe bandwagon a long time ago, I love your movies, please don't stop making them.

They're just movies, gamer nerds. There are far more important things in this world to get angry about.
And besides, no one plays games for the "stories", they play them for the gameplay. So it's a bit rich to be expecting great cinema from something like House of the Dead, Double Dragon, or Tomb Raider.
Boll's films may be bad, but there a far worse directors out there. Boll's main sin appears to be pissing off a horde of immature gamer nerds, nothing more.
I'm with Devin on this one.
