This is on a par with Meet The Spartans for lazy obvious humor. Chud can do a lot better than this.

Look, this website exists in an age where vulgarity is delighted in without a moment's hesitation or second thought, because there's the thought of, "What would my peers think if I actually said something intelligent, grown up, and constructive?" It's the culture we have, for the foreseeable future. But be that as it is, this site, and AICN, and all the rest who profess to report on film, you're high if you think you can keep up this nonsense. If we want verbal or visual pornography, there are other sites. Clean up -- just a little? -- gentlemen, or all you'll never be taken seriously, getting the success you truly desire, helping you to actually finish extracarricular projects, so that you can be those shooting stars you mercilessly paint yourselves. A decade of CHUD...? Get out. Maybe I'm the one who's high. Free country, do whatever you want. I get it, you have power, and you want to be hip and gradually work less, and eventually not at all. Keep up the mediocre work you and your apologists find satisfaction in. That's enviable, that you've toughed it out this long, doing what you do. Hats off, with nothing but respect; partial respect.

These are actually starting to piss me off. There's an art to the three-panel strip, an art that many people (including me) spend years learning and refining, and The Bitter End is a perfect example of what you get when somebody who thinks they can be funny just starts churning them out with little thought. This style of comic isn't easy, and there's an arrogance in the way that these half-hearted scrawls are being presented - the above-the-heading links, the removal of critical remarks - that simply isn't justified by the amount of effort being put into the work. Ron, for all its flaws, at least had a style and pace of its own. There was potential there. This? This is just infantile crap, barely even worth a thread on the message board let alone a regular front page slot. You can't just scribble down half-baked punchline or non-sequiturs and expect people to automatically treat the result with respect. Put simply, The Bitter End needs a LOT of work before it's worthy of a public audience. Someone who was serious about what they were doing would realize that.

Remember your college newspaper? Remember how dismal the comics section was, and how everyone complained about it? Yeah...

I realise that was the bone-headed concept behind the first strip, but it's still a cowardly way of handling criticism. And as for "bashing the creative output of others", isn't that exactly what CHUD has built its reputation on? Would it be OK if we scored The Bitter End as "Fuck You Out Of 10"?
