THUD: CHUD ONLY ONE WEEK LATE TO THE DAVID EICK/CHILDREN OF MEN STORY
I don’t know how we missed the story that one of the driving forces behind one of CHUD’s favorite shows, Battlestar Galactica, will be making a pilot based on The Children of Men (the P.D. James book, not the movie). But there it is.If the story weren’t exciting on its own, it certainly becomes so when you see the direction Eick intends to go with it. From Sci Fi Wire:
"It's really taking root more in the origins of the novel in that it will focus on the cultural movement in which young people become the society's utter focus," Eick (Battlestar Galactica) said in an interview at SCI FI Channel's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on March 18. "Much like our culture, whenever Lindsay Lohan does something [and] it becomes the headline of every news show, it's about how, when you don't have a responsibility to the next generation and you're free to do whatever you want, where do you draw the line?"
He also added, "It's not really a war show like the movie was. It's more an exploration of that issue."
What this means, as far as I can tell, is that the show will be about the world before the miracle child is born. The look we got at that world in Alfonzo Cuaron's film was quite fascinating, and as Eick says, that’s a premise that is rife with possibilities for great drama and social commentary.
It’s probably no coincidence that Eick also came out and said on the same day that Bionic Woman is done. Hopefully, this new show will be able to avoid the kind of behind-the-scenes bullshit that one did.
Even though Battlestar is coming to an end this year, Eick is going to be one busy dude, what with the announcement at the Upfront that Caprica has been officially greenlit (did we do a story about that?) and is expected to go on air this year. Of course, this means that we might actually have two new excellent science fiction shows on the air at the same time if Children of Men comes to fruition, which would be a huge win for the nerds. And the world in general, really, even if they don't realize it.

How do I become a writer on CHUD?

just out of curiousity, but what "behind-the-scenes bullshit" went on with Bionic Woman?

Take your pic. Re-shoots, sackings, re-writes, more sackings, show runners leaving. All before the Pilot had aired.

Neato, I hope this happens.

How much credit should go to Eick in shaping Battlestar versus Moore? Since Bionic Woman, I'm a little leary on what Eick brings on his own.

Still trying to understand why Owen writes for CHUD. I mean I try to finish the article, but don't really like the taste of vomit. Fuck off...please?

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, PHIL!!!

Being that this story is mostly the quote from David Eick and some decidedly unpainful commentary surrounding it, I wonder if the Owen protesters actually trouble themselves to read anything.

Will the Phil haters step to the plate and write an oficially published article on CHUD already? Oh, wait - that's right - they haven't.

@Mark - From what I've heard about the show, just about everyone on the Battlestar crew thinks David Eick is an incompetent moron -- especially Moore. There are reports of editors and DPs being told by Eick to edit/shoot the show one way only to have Moore come in, deride the efforts, and insist re-edits/re-shoots of episodes/scenes from the bottom up. Apparently, the only reason he's kept around is because he owns the rights to Battlestar. From reports I've heard from friends close to Bionic Woman, the blame for the behind the scenes clusterfuck rests primarily on Eick's shoulders. He's just an incompetent blowhard who happened to get his foot in the door to Hollywood by purchasing some dormant series rights. His attachment to Children of Men fills me with dread.

I really don't see what is so offensive about this guy's articles to some ... they don't bother me any more than any of the rest of the "critics" on here.
Anyway, BG is a decent show ... not a patch on Firefly ... so have fun disappearing up your own asshole when you realize that "character-driven stories" without the carnage are called drama. Wonder how many people will watch the show without killin' going on?
Plus, how long will the "critics" on this site like BG when they realize it is popular, and therefore against their rules to like it. Apatow should be getting ready for them to turn on him any day now too ... so they can go find some other movie that six people watch in the country and call it a MASTERPIECE!

Don't let the buggers get you down, Phil. These bitter mongoloids will get theirs, consumed by piss and vinegar and dying alone and unloved.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't tell it was a Phil Owen article. It seemed pretty straightforward and without the usual piss he brings to the table.
