IRON MAN HATH NO FURY?

For months, the worst kept secret about Iron Man has been Samuel L. Jackson's cameo as Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Marvel and director Jon Favreau tried to play coy for a while, but they finally gave up and admitted that, yes, Sam Jackson dropped by for a one-day shoot as the eye-patched superspy. And, once again, the internet ruined what could've been a really cool surprise.Or did it? According to the panel at yesterday's Wizard World Los Angeles convention (via Comic Book Resources), Samuel L. Jackson's appearance may not turn up in Iron Man after all. So, um, if it isn't going to be used in Iron Man, where exactly will it go? The panel - which was comprised of Wizard Entertainment's Rickey Purdin and Toyfare Magazine's Adam Tracy - did confirm that there will be some kind of a crossover between Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, but I seriously doubt they're going to wedge a Tony Stark/Nick Fury scene into Edward Norton's tour de force. As far as I can tell, the only plausible option is holding it back for the DVD, which would be a weak launch for a character unknown to most non-geeks.
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I know that Marvel is dead set on Jackson as Fury, and I've heard that his scene with Robert Downey Jr. is terrific; it certainly doesn't sound like the kind of thing that gets shot for an Extended Edition DVD. Let's see if we can't get something a tad more solid on this...

Or, just leave it alone and let it be a nice surprise?

I can see the performance now:
" I am sick and fucking tired of the mothafuckin Hyrdra Agents on this muthafuckin Heli-carrier!"
Thank you, goodnight.

Ohhh, Marvel studios! Must you screw everything up!?! I can't imagine Favreau scapping the cameo. It would be such a perfectly cool geek-out moment. Let's hope it's in.

What if the scene they did in Iron Man is spliced into Incredible Hulk and vice versa? That could work.

Could this possibly be misinformation? To make a non-mystery into an object of speculation, therefore injecting some hype into these two films I'm feeling strangely unhyped about.

Continuity porn.

If Sam as Nick Fury doesn't promise Tony Stark to hire people to ass fuck Justin Hammer, I'll be very disappointed.

Marvel does screw everything up. Their first mistake was letting Jon Fav helm this thing. When will people learn that cult status doesn't alway equal talent. Zathura was no Jumanji, Elf had its moments but never did anything truly memorable. After seeing the trailer and how they butchered tony stark i cringe. Not to mention Iron Man always has the lamest enemies - Mandarin? Fing Fang Foom? R U KIDDING!

Ignore Scarboni, he's still suffering from his reverse polarity enema earlier today.

Well, he's right. Zathura was no Jumanji. Zathura was good.

This is just like Christmas, 1990, when I saw mom walk out of McDuffy's Electronics with Batman on VHS. I said, "oh, boy! Batman for Christmas!" And she said, "Batman? What Batman?" And then I got Batman for Christmas.

I gotta agree (partially - IM villains are great, think Spy Master, Saboteur or Crimson Dynamo...) with Tony Scarboni, Favreau put more effort in buttering up the fans than in the trailers which were just childish in tone and turned Tony Stark into a cynical, unfunny buffoon. Slight misinterpretation of the character. I hope the whole enchilada doesn't get sillier than that, and I truly hope that they'll keep Jackson's cameo in it as well, cause that was a helluva nice casting choice.
