SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T STOP BELIEVING IN A SOPRANOS MOVIE

There are still people upset by the finale of The Sopranos; I loved the audacity of the ending but I can also see how some people would be left cold by the lack of closure. They're wrong, of course, but I can see where they're coming from*. These people hold out hope that there will be a return to the world of The Sopranos, perhaps a movie that will tie things up in a more conventional narrative bow.
The owner of the Satin Dolls strip club, the location used for the Bada Bing on the show, is feeding those hopes. Nick D'Urso tells the Times Herald-Record (in upstate New York! Nowhere near New Jersey!) that he's decided not to remodel his club after getting 'inside info' about a Sopranos movie. “I got an inside tip that they’re going to do a movie, so I don’t want to make any major changes,” D’Urso said Wednesday. “I’m not going to reveal my sources, but we got a call from somebody (working) on the script.”
It's hard to imagine show creator David Chase wanting to go back - that ending was not a cliffhanger but a statement. And even if they did go back, how would that work? Most of the beloved characters are dead or out of the picture, and short of going Beowulf, there's no realistic way to do a prequel. Since the show happened in real time there are large gaps between seasons, but while Chase and company could go back for an 'Untold Tales of The Sopranos,' what's the drama in that?
Realistically, I'd say that D'Urso's looking to drum up a little business for Satin Dolls. He wants to remind you that his club is the real Bing, and that he hasn't changed anything since the show stopped shooting.

Actually, D'Urso told The Record of Bergen County in Hackensack, N.J.

While I AM a big Sopranos fan, I can't imagine what they would be able to accomplish in a 2 hour movie. I'm not necessarily saying that because it would be a continuation of a show that was on for so long or because so many of the regulars were killed off, but because there were very long stretches during the course of the show where there seemed to be NOTHING happening. The ads for the show were the greatest, as they created a lot of suspense, but then you would tune in the next week, and the conflict would be resolved in the first ten minutes, or there wouldn't really be any conflict at all. In fact, the final 2 seasons seemed like it could have been whittled down to one. That was the original plan I think, but then Chase changed his mind and stretched what could have been 1 season into 2, and it really, really showed. The big picture may have remained the same, but there seemed to be a lot of filler. It got really interesting towards the end when characters DID start disappearing left and right, as it WASN'T hyped up that "This week, someone will DIE!", but the final season feels like it should have been more about that, how things were coming apart. Instead, it was all jammed into about 3 episodes while things like AJ's subplot (and Tony's earlier gunshot/recovery/eventual return to status quo) got center stage and had no real payoff. Speaking of which, I did like the ending, where everything just stopped, especially how the song gets cut off mid-chorus. While the story stopped for US, it doesn't mean that it was the end of the story for the characters, whether we get to see it or not

The ending was brilliant. I think people who didn't like it are like those who didn't like No Country for Old Men's ending. They long for a conventional closure for something that wasn't conventional to begin with, nor it wanted to be.
Having said that, The Sopranos was so cinematical that I know Chase could do wonders with a movie.

I'm all for this. I never watched the show, but this seems to be a trend for HBO, beginning with Sex in the City (shudder). Eventually this trend could continue and include my beloved Deadwood or Carnivale. Or...we'll see what happens on The Wire. That gets to end on its own terms whereas Deadwood and Carnivale had further ambition.

Is "cinematical" even a word?

Devin, from where I live, I can step into Jersey and then weave into PA without breaking a sweat. The Times-Herald Record can be found in Montague and Matamoras. It pretty much covers the basics and isn’t just upstate NY.

I didn't mind the end of Sopranos when i saw it, but the more I think about it, the more it seems a cop out. I didn't invest all those years for a black screen. I think Chase was obsessed with not giving the audience what they want. There's giving the audience what they want and giving them what they deserve.

Forget the Sopranos! I just want a third Analyze movie. Bobby D & Billy C were magic together!

A Soprano's movie would be impossible wouldn't it.

The ending was great I thought and increibly original, which played with the whole way the series has been made over the years. I'm glad Chase gave it that ending, and in many ways, I hope they don't make a movie or a prequel. I would love to see any new series that the teams makes makes, because they've got a lot to offer, and shouldn't just be stereotyped with the Sopranos- for instance Kolchak was a great series, which, if I'm right, was written by Chase.

How can you say there was no closure when Tony was whacked?
