SLY STALLONE'S CHARACTER REVIVALS GETTING DAM OUT OF HAND

I was surprised by both Rocky Balboa and Rambo - walking in I expected very little from an aged Sylvester Stallone, and both times he delivered stripped down perfect retakes of his classic characters. The internet has been joking about Sly digging through his back catalog and revisiting his less iconic roles (coming soon: Marion Cobretti. Next summer: Deke DeSilva!), but as Morrissey once said, that joke isn't funny anymore. Mainly because Sly may be taking it seriously.According to PR Inside, Stallone is in talks to make Gabe Walker - er, The Dam, a sequel to Cliffhanger. Now, let's not mince words: Cliffhanger is one of Stallone's few bright spots in the 90s and sparked his third to latest career comeback (the next would be Copland, and the latest is of course Rocky/Rambo), but do we need a sequel to it fifteen years later? I don't think so.
Here's what Stallone does: he makes a good movie or two, makes everybody re-evaluate him, and then he just shits out absolute garbage for the next few years so that he can again make a good movie and again make everybody re-evaluate him. Break the cycle, Sly. Don't go back to tired territory again. Move forward. Try to make a third good movie, guy. You can do it.

Cliffhanger hasn't held up as well as Rocky and First Blood. Silly idea. I've never even thought about Gabe Walker as a character, really. What? Watch him overcome his hear of drowning now?

"Ray Tango & Gabriel Cash" would be a better choice.

They're finally making this? Cool, I guess.

My first thought is --- "Bad Idea!" but then again that's what I said when I heard about Rocky Balboa. I then thought the same thing about the new Rambo. I think I was proven wrong both times. I hereby challenge Mr. Stallone to prove me wrong a third time.

The title makes it seem as if he was going back to the idea that eventually *did* become "Cliffhanger" - terrorists in a flooded town, or something akin to that...
Or maybe he'll be adapting Alistair MacLean! :o)

I know it's not exactly a great film, but I'd love to see him go back to the COPLAND character. CLIFFHANGER is fun though, but it was almost entirely Lithgow. What happened to his MECHANIC remake?

God help us if we get back around to Daylight 2.

Oh man, Sly. You know Westley Snipes and Sandra Bullock need a JOHN SPARTAN: Demolition Man 2.
Although Snipes DID explode as a giant popsicle in the end.... maybe he could come back as a frozen head with a robotic body or something equally ridiculous. YOUR PUBLIC DEMANDS IT!

I have to agree with Devin this ship (Cliffhanger) has already sailed. If anything DeSilva making a comeback seems all the more timely. Who better to take on the terrorists in New York City after 9/11? Just no Billy Dee Williams just get Mos Def instead.

Hell yes! TANGO & CASH RETURN, or COBRETTI - hell, I'd even watch LOCK UP 2. Except that's pretty much PRISON BREAK. But I'd REALLY love to see DEMOLITION MAN 2 - because, after all, there's got to be more bad guys in that pacified future! Haven't there?
Get busy with TANGO AND CASH RETURN, then we'll talk DEMOLITION MAN 2 and COBRETTI. Get to it, Sly.

He can't afford to "shit out absolute garbage for the next few years" because his next comeback would be like, what.. when he's 70?

I'll bet this will be a remake of the Japanese Die Hard style movie Whiteout. It was set on a dam and had the perfect Hollywood set up (being snow logged for 24 hours etc). Just wait and see...

I think a sequal to 'Stop or my Mom will Shoot" is something Sly should do. Since Estelle Getty is suffering from dementia it could add a little bit of "Away from Her" pathos to the story.

Assassins 2. Or The Specialist 2. Or mix 'em together and make an Assassin Specialist of some sort.

I'm on board for "Driven 2: Drive Harder".

Sandeep: "Since Estelle Getty is suffering from dementia it could add a little bit of "Away from Her" pathos to the story"...ha ha ...shit thats pretty hilsarious...the sad part is i felt rocky balboa and rambo already kinda contained those sentiments..WHAT DO YOU MEAN THOSE ARENT HIGH CONCEPT COMEDIES?

I thought "The Dam" was a rejected script for a Cliffhanger 2 film and that "Daylight" was the second script commissioned for the sequel, but for some reason or another was rewritten to be a standalone film? Am I wrong about this? I swear I read somewhere before that "Daylight" started out as a sequel to "Cliffhanger". Anyway, I'm calling bullshit on this rumor. Sly himself said that he wouldn't be bringing back any other characters for late-in-the-game sequels. Instead he's focusing his attention on "Rambo 5", "Poe", and his remake of "Death Wish".
