I’ve been eagerly waiting to see what kind of movie The Campaign would ultimately be and what kind of characters Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell would be playing, and now we have our answers. Timeline-hating, retreads of their stock characters!
Don’t get me wrong, I like the three videos put up for the film so far, but it’s clear: Ferrell is on a tweaked version of his Bush caricature, while Galifianakis is giving Seth Galifianakis his real big-screen debut (go here immediately if you’re not sure what I’m talking about).
On Facebook today, the film has debuted three video and three new pages- one for the film, and one for each of the two characters. The main page has a video with both candidates making fun of Facebook and its Timeline format, and encouraging you to visit the two individual pages. There you’ll find either Cam Brady or Marty Huggins’ first campaign video, both of which also serve as an attack ad on the other.
I definitely have a fondness for Marty Huggins’ video, as Galifianakis has some great one liners (“Can’t is the real C-word!”) and ridiculous images. Ferrell is more on the Colbert-style over-confident douchebag ride, but it obviously works for him. Speaking of which, I can’t wait to see the Daily Show/Colbert tie-ins with this film. Surely both have cameos? Regardless, their inevitable interviews with the in-character candidates should be hilarious.
Check out those FB videos and let us know what you think in the comments.
The film hits August 10th.
