Finally.
I’ve been wanting you to see this movie for a long time now. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, the movie I was lucky to be a part of and the feature debut of my good friend Troy Nixey. Of course most of you know it as the next Guillermo del Toro project to hit screens and that’s a good thing.
I’m Associate Producer on the film and couldn’t be prouder of it. It was shot in the beautiful city of Melbourne, Australia and is truly an old school horror film. A legit genre flick and what I feel is a perfect gateway flick for people who normally aren’t into horror.
Here’s the official synopsis and whatnot:
Guillermo del Toro presents DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, a horror film starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison, directed by Troy Nixey. Based on the 1973 telefilm that del Toro believes is the scariest TV production ever made, the story follows Sally (Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the house, Sally starts to hear voices coming from creatures in the basement whose hidden agenda is to claim her as one of their own. Akin to del Toro’s PAN’S LABYRINTH, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK focuses on a young girl’s struggle against menacing and terrifying forces.

First of all, please “like” the Facebook link above if you can.
We are doing a sneak preview of the film in five Southerly cities, including a rarity: FOUR IN FLORIDA! This is a movie more than any other in the history of this site I need you folks to help spread the word on. We’ve been waiting to come out for a long time, well over a year now. It’s time to get a lot of eyeballs on it.
So, to win passes for yourself and a guest to see this flick in a couple of weeks all you have to do is tell me how much you know about the film now. How much has it sunk in based on what you’ve read here and elsewhere and what the marketing has done to get your attention. The campaign will be in full bloom this weekend and beyond, so I expect that to change. Katie Holmes recently was on The Tonight Show promoting it and there’s more to come.
So tell me what your awareness is today. That’s pretty much all I need from you. I will say that the Atlanta screening is going to be bonkers. I want all my favorite friends, family, and readers to be there for it. I also would suggest we go en masse afterwards for drinks. I am just an Associate Producer on this so don’t think I’m buyin’!
Also, tell me you’re going to tell everyone you know that this movie’s coming out and your buddy Nick was involved in it!
