Vin Diesel headed to Berlin to help and sell the international rights for Riddick, the second sequel to Pitch Black, which got surprisingly greenlit last week. While doing a presentation to Russian buyers, some story elements from the film were revealed, and they all sound like they come right from a 1979 Italian Star Wars knock off:
Though billed as a back-to-basics approach to the character popularized by Diesel, the script features the character — the most wanted man in the galaxy — left for dead on a barren alien planet, dealing with “trisons” (three-legged bisons) and “mud demons.” He must then contend with two squads of bounty hunters, one of which ride rockets called jetcycles.
I wonder how Riddick ends up in that situation; it’ll be interesting to see if Diesel and David Twohy even make reference to Chronicles of Riddick or if they’ll just brush it off.
By the way, about the movie being a 1979 Italian Star Wars knock off: whether that’s good or bad is up to you.
