Or at least, they’re going to team to tell a story about a couple who actually did. Variety reports that the Milk director and American Psycho author have made plans to team to write a script called The Golden Suicides, about the double suicides of artists Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake. At this point, Van Sant, who is currently preparing Restless, is on board to write only.
According to the article, Duncan and Blake formed a popular couple on the downtown New York and Venice, Calif., art scenes. She was one of the first videogame designers for girls, and his “digital paintings” — kaleidoscopic images shown on plasma screens — established him as a rising star on the circuit. The couple descended into a paranoid spiral when the artists developed a consuming belief that government and religious organizations were conspiring against them. She killed herself in 2007. Blake found her body on the floor of their bedroom, and walked into the Atlantic Ocean a week later, ending his life.
No start date nor possible stars being considered have yet been announced. However, upon gleaning a little more info on the tragic pair, who reportedly believed that Scientologists were following and harrassing them (Wikipedia), I’d say Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes aren’t jumping at the opportunity anytime soon.
