The day has finally come that someone has secured the rights to a Guys & Dolls remake (or re-adaptation, or whatever) and it appears it’s actually going to happen. This isn’t the first attempt from a studio (or a Weinstein) to close this deal, but it’s taken till now for Fox to actually manage it.
There aren’t any principle creatives involved, but the studio already has two male leads interested, and you’ll never guess who… Except that it’s in the article’s title and you’ve probably seen tweets.
It’s Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt!
Yep, the two representatives of both ends of the Hollywood hunk spectrum are circling the roles originated by Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando. Both can dance and hold a tune, and the film will cover both the beefcake and trim suavity ends of the masculinity spectrum. Exploded ovaries, indeed. Now they just need to get Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence circling Vivian Blaine and Jean Simmons’ roles and the Millenial generation will simultaneously explode and make all the cranky Gen Xers happy.
It’s unclear if this is on a fast-track or will take a while to come together, but this is a big gig for whatever director lobbies the hardest. I suspect Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) will be high on the shortlist…
