I’m sick and tired of all the falderal about the use of steroids in sports. I know its polarizing as hell and I am a purist when its comes to sports. I don’t believe there should be a place for steroid use in professional sports. Having said that, I don’t believe that the legal witch hunt is necessary either.

There is now a whole litany of sports stars that have either been accused or admitted to using anabolic steroids. Barry Bonds has become the poster child for steroid abuse and I agree, certainly looking at him offers enough evidence to believe he is either abusing steroids, HGH or has a rare pituitary problem.

Before we get to the remedy lets be specific here about what kind of steroids these are. I hear certain sports talk hosts that put on the ignorance front about steroids because they don’t want to acknowledge that there is any difference between corticosteroids and anabolic steroids. There is. I am neither a pharmacist or a doctor but the essential difference between between the two is that corticosteroids are used to reduce swelling and anabolic steroids are used to promote tissue growth. Getting a cortisone injection is not going to make you bigger, conversely getting an anabolic steroid injection is not going to make that torn rotator cuff feel any better.

Getting a cortisone injection is not the same thing as getting juiced. Do not get the two confused, and don’t allow some sports star to say that he didn’t know what he was being injected with. The shots hurt more than a regular shot, and they happen frequently, not just once and suddenly you are huge. If you received a steroid injection you would, at the very least, ask what the hell it was.

So now you know a little bit more about the subject, how does professional sports deal with it? Simple really. Don’t prosecute them in the criminal justice system. Simply give all athletes an opportunity to step forward and admit using them. If they have been using anabolic steroids or hgh or any performance enhancers then that athlete can not hold any records. They can receive bonuses from the team, but no records and no all of fame. If they are discovered later using performance enhancers after professing they are not using, they are banned for life. No more congressional hearings, no more wasted tax payer dollars on trials, except Barry Bonds who was stupid enough to lie to congress. That idiot needs to go down.
