Nick told you it was a possibility and now it’s confirmed: Jamie Foxx will play Electro in the The Amazing Spider-Man 2. From the actor:
“Electro is a great character. I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked… I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he’s a… genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”
Foxx is a left-field choice for the character, but I appreciate the out-of-box thinking here. Aside from being white (which doesn’t matter one iota, really), Max Dillon was always drawn with a menacing, wiry frame that Mr. Foxx lacks. But dude’s a talented and capable performer who hasn’t had many opportunities to show his range since he snagged that Oscar for Ray. The question of whether or not he can pull off Electro doesn’t need to be asked. He can.
In the comics, Max Dillon was an electrical lineman who got struck by lighting as he was repairing a power line, thus turning him into a human (evil) super conductor. So, you know, if you live in the Marvel universe and are looking to shortcut your way into a superpower, stick your finger in a socket and hope the weather turns.
