Steven Spielberg and Joe Johnston have been threatening a Jurassic Park IV for years now. With Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) toiling away on the latest draft, it’s only a matter of time until we’re graced with a fourth romp with the ressurected dinos of Isla Nublar. But this is a story about what you won’t see in a fourth Jurassic Park: genetically engineered human / dino hybrids helping fight the war on drugs.
Wait, you’re saying never expected to see a Jurassic Park featuring genetically engineered human / dino hybrids helping to fight the war on drugs? Neither did Universal, but that’s exactly what they were up against in the form of a 2007 script by screenwriters William Monahan (The Departed) and John Sayles (The Spiderwick Chronicles). It all came to a head when the draft made it into the hands of Drew McWeeny during his tenure at AICN. Shortly after he surveyed the (awesome-sounding) script in a review, the proposed sequel seemingly died quietly.
Lucky for us, Universal saw fit to draft up some concept art before they killed the project dead. That art made its way to Reddit yesterday. It’s about what you’d expect if you’re the sort of person who visualizes films about genetically engineered human / dino hybrids helping fight the war on drugs. It sounds like The Expendables but with less dinosaurs:
