A while back I reported that Jim Carrey supposedly walked away from the prospective Dumb & Dumber sequel on the horizon. At the time I suspected that Carrey’s announcement was merely a negotiation tactic. Not to prove or disprove that theory, but no one told Jeff Daniels that Carrey was out of the movie. Here’s what he had to say at a recent Television Critics Association panel:
“Oh sure, even more so now. Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it. They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren’t trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do ‘Newsroom’ in November. So they’re going, ‘Why don’t we just do it right? Let’s get everybody organized to go next May or June.’ If everything works out on the business side, that’s what we’ll do but I think there’s more hope than ever.”
Quite the roller coaster this proposed sequel has been on. First, it was a sure thing. Then Carrey’s absence put the entire project in jeopardy. Now, everyone wants to do it, but who knows? I think we can all but confirm Dumb & Dumber 2 happening at this point. Whether or not we need it (or if the Farrellys can even deliver a decent movie anymore) is up for debate.
